Snagit 13 installer leaves leaves behind several copies of its setup package

I see that the Snagit installer (v13.1.1 in this example) creates and leaves behind several identical copies of its own setup package.

One copy inside the folder:
C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{B6369D04-6B02-4C63-85C5-46C09D0787EE}v13.1.1

And another identical copy inside the folder:
C:\Windows\Installer

Each one takes up 111 MB.

Creating and leaving behind multiple identical copies of the setup package is just a flagrant waste of the space on my SSD.

Been with the product line for 10+ years. Went back to v 12 and am done with future versions.

Files in C:\Windows\Installer are necessary, for uninstalling applications, among other things. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/joscon/2012/01/18/can-you-safely-delete-files-in-the-windirinsta... for example.

Yes JL1, that is obvious. When going through and checking all of the installers on my system, of course I saw many other installers in that folder, for many other programs.

You have missed the point of what I am reporting.

Snagit is different to other programs in that it creates *multiple* identical copies of its installer, and leaves them in multiple locations, thus wasting space unnecessarily.

The installer setup package is not in the "C:\Windows\Installer\{B6369D04-6B02-4C63-85C5-46C09D0787EE}" folder from what I can see (just a couple of icon resource hosting executable files). Are you seeing an .MSI file in that location?

The "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{B6369D04-6B02-4C63-85C5-46C09D0787EE}v13.1.1" folder has the setup package (.MSI file) and this is needed for the reasons JL1 mentioned. Another reference about that: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28342803/wix-exepackage-cache

David Howell, the installer msi is not inside a subfolder of C:\Windows\Installer. It is directly inside C:\Windows\Installer. See my first post, where I provided the exact folder locations.

On my system, the full path is "C:\Windows\Installer\896a1.msi"
On your system the filename might be different.

I guess this is the reason TechSmith doesn't notice these kinds of problems. Their own employees can't find the files that their setup program creates.

@David Howell

You went very quiet. Did you manage to find it?
