Snagit 13 Keeps Updating to Snagit 2018 - I keep uninstalling

Since Snagit 2018 went live a couple weeks ago, each time I reboot my computer, Snagit 2018 is installed.  Unfortunately, I'm only licensed for Snagit 13, so I'm currently on the trial version of Snagit 2018 (which is quickly running out).

I contacted Snagit tech support and they suggested that the problem might be due to a corporate "software distribution package" (such as LANDESK) updating the software, I have confirmed that this is not the case.

I never requested the upgrade to Snagit 2018.

I have been through the process of "uninstalling Snagit 2018 / re-installing Snagit 13"  five times now and its driving me nuts.

Upon reinstall of Snagit 13, I have unchecked the "automatically check for updates" box in Snagit 13... problem is still happening.

(I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, 64bit, I also have Camtasia 9 - it seems to be behaving correctly)

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi Bill,

This is really unusual and something I don't think we've seen before. I'm assuming you're still working with Technical Support on this issue.

There's a separate thread which is not the same as the problem you're having, but it contains instructions on how to stop the updater.

Here's the other thread.  Specifically, look at the post from Brett, and one almost at the bottom of the page from Brian Ottaway.

I hope this helps,

Thank you Glenn... I'm going to pursue this issue with tech support a bit further... unfortunately this has been a big time waster, but I'm hoping to get to the bottom of it before I start deleting files in the updater folder.

The tech support request can be found here >>>

Keeping fingers crossed that I can get this solved... I'm a bit fan of the TECHSMITH product line.

PS.  Happy New Year!
