Hello TechSmith Community;

Welcome everyone! The counts are in and the feature suggestions have been brought to the development team and we are here today to let you know what suggestions fit where within our development track. Please note that highly-voted suggestions are not guaranteed to be within the product; each suggestion is reviewed by our development team and TechSmith leadership and weighed against our plans and where such suggestion will fit. This is an evolving process so some ideas may have a Status change as development continues on Snagit. Feel free to reach out to Robert at r.risdon@techsmith.com if you have any questions or concerns regarding the Feature Suggestion process.

Without further ado, here is a breakdown of the 2017 Year End Snagit Voting Roundup

Planned

  • At this time we have no Planned suggestions. But that will change as we investigate the Ideas Under Consideration.

Original Post Contents

With the wrapping up of our Camtasia voting period, we are now launching our 2017 year-end voting period for Snagit. It will run from today, January 5th, 2017 through January 19th, 2017. The purpose of this Snagit Roundup is to take the feature suggestions submitted between July 1st, 2017 and December 11th, 2017 that had the most number of votes and resubmit them to the community; we will be sharing this thread and sending out in-product notifications to existing Snagit users in an attempt to reach the widest pool of Snagit users possible. We recommend that you click on the various Share buttons found at the bottom of the thread to share them with your co-workers and fellow Snagit users (see here ).

How to vote:
To vote in this roundup you need to first log into your TechSmith account in the upper right corner of this page then simply click on those feature suggestions listed below that you would find useful and purposeful to your usage of Snagit. Once you are logged in and have selected the suggestions most impactful to you, just click the "Vote" button in the upper right corner of the Idea thread (see here). Please note that you can only vote once per thread.

Have a feature suggestion that is not listed?
If you have a suggestion for a new feature, please create a new suggestion here. If there is an existing thread covering the same concept as your suggestion, please vote for it (do not create a new thread). If your idea is not listed you can create a new thread by clicking on the "Continue Creating Conversation" link at the bottom of the page (see here). Once you have filled out your new suggestion, simply click "Post" to submit it to the community (see here). Submitting a suggestion in this fashion may see it added to the next round up, which will take place mid-2018 assuming it is a popular topic with the community (based on Vote Counts).

Please note that no ideas posted in the comments of this topic will be added to the current round up; if you have an Idea that you would like to submit for a roundup, please do so by creating a new thread and sharing it via your colleagues, social channels, and champion its cause here in the TechSmith Community Forums.

That concludes our list for this Voting Roundup!
Thank you all for your participation and we will update this thread with the results shortly after the voting period has ended.

I would also like to be able to delete the captures from the SnagIt Editor (after saving them to a file folder) without having those screen captures/videos be deleted from the folder I saved them to as well. If you take too many captures, then the editor program gets bogged down. I use this for my marketing class at school and I have lost a lot of work because of this.

I could see this being useful. Kind of a "jettison" button that would just clear that entire bottom tray. Sure, you can hold the control key down and do the multiple select, but it's really not any easier or faster than repeately clicking the little x that pops up.

I regularly clear my bottom tray out and having a simple one click option to clear it would be awesome and a huge time saver.

Cheers... Rick :)

If you right click the tray and choose close all ... that does the trick

Indeed it does! Appreciate the tip. Not sure why I never thought of that.

You can count your day a success. You taught an old dog a new trick!

Now if we can only coax them to put in a feature that just closes all of them without nagging you that one or two have been modified and you haven't saved. LOL

I remember a time when we could do that. As far as I know that feature is long gone.

I'm running 2018.0.1 and it's not available.

Okay modified response here.

It works, however. It only works if I place my cursor on the bottom of an image. If I place the cursor where it identifies the image as a png I have the option to close all.

If I click above it, the option is not available. The difference in placement of the cursor. Is not that much.

Two things. Pretty please make it so we can hold shift to constrain movement horizontally and vertically. I've been asking for this for years!

I would also like to be able to bump things with the arrow keys a pixel at a time, at present, the increment is much too large to be useful.

Hopefully you are aware that you can actually nudge in one pixel movements. To do so requires you press and hold the Ctrl key while you use the arrow keys.

Cheers... Rick :)

Oh, and I forgot to add that I really Really REALLY wish that the default was one pixel movements with pressing and holding Ctrl to use larger movements. And it would be way cool to follow Adobe Captivate's example where they have a grid you can turn on and set the number of pixels apart the grid dots are. And that same value also controls how many pixels the Ctrl+Arrow jumps.

Well, no, I was not aware of that or I wouldn't have requested it :)

Thank you for the tip!

Still don't understand why shift/constrain is still missing!

Thought of one (er, two) more:

When I draw an arrow on something, it's immediately deselected (this did not happen in previous versions). I have to select it again in order to change the color, size, etc. which I do 99.9% of the time.

Also, the color palette is pretty, but not bright enough to show up well when doing markup. Perhaps have alternate color palettes with the more jarring colors available that we don't have to create manually.

Have you begun using the area at the bottom of the color palette for this?

No, but I suppose I should. Ohhhhhhhh, nevermind. I just discovered themes! Forgive me. Snagit has so much to love, I just have to know where to find it :)

EDIT: My new request is for a bunch of downloadable themes I can import so I don't have to fuss with it.

BTW: How do you do a screen capture of the editor? Whenever I try (using hotkey), the editor disappears.

Uncheck the box for "Hide SnagIt when capturing" in the "SnagIT Capture Preferences"

Hey, we all learn (and steal) from one another, no?

Be aware that even with this option cleared, you will still encounter some SnagIt dialogs and whatnot that you cannot capture. For those, you will need to use perhaps the clipping tool in Windows.

Cheers... Rick :)

I want to be able to snag a capture and paste it into another application without having to go to the editor, selecting the capture, and 'copying' it to the clipboard!  This seems like the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind (to borrow a phrase ...)!  The application is BY DEFINITION making a copy of whatever it captures.  WHY can't I just then paste that capture into another application??

(If this DOES already function via some configuration or keystroke combination, can some kind soul point out how it can be set as a default option?)

What version of SnagIt do you use? Minor versions (such as moving from a fictitious 24.5.0 to perhaps 24.6.0) are always a free upgrade. You aren't asked to pay to upgrade unless you are moving from perhaps version 11 to 12, or 3 to 4.

And there is even a "grace" period. But I think it's reasonably short. Perhaps 90 days? Where if you purchased say, version 11, and two months later (or a time period within that grace period duration) version 12 is announced and released. And in those cases it's often or typically a free upgrade.

Cheers... Rick :)

I understand what you are saying but this grace period should be 1 full year. Not a short time of a couple of months. Its very frustrating to be frank.

Hi all!

We wanted to thank everyone for their participation in the 2017 year-end feature suggestion voting for Snagit! The voting period has now closed. We will update this thread in the next few days with vote counts and, after review, will update the statuses for those items found in the voting roundup so be sure to keep an eye out for those updates.
