Snagit 2018 for Mac is so slow that it's unusable. It takes 30+ to get crosshairs on my screen for a capture. I really regret upgrading from the old version, which was reliable - my go-to for image capture. I'm so frustrated and disappointed.

Everytime I try to capture, my computer locks up and I can't even Force Quit out.

Hi,

What versions of Snagit and macOS are you running? This sounds like an issue you can run into on macOS 10.14 if you have an older copy of Snagit.

I did a check for updates and there is a new version I upgraded to and now it seems to work Version 2018.2.3 (90456).  I was thinking it was set to auto update or notify.

So sorry about the slowness! What version of Snagit 2018 do you have? We had an issue where captures would gradually get slower, but that was fixed in 2018.1.1. If you have newer than that, I would reach out to our Tech Support team so they can help you get things back up to usable speeds.

Both are up to date. Mac OS is 10.13.6; Snagit 2018 is 2018.2.3.

Thanks for the info. I would try restarting your computer and if that doesn't improve performance, then I would recommend opening a ticket with our tech support team.

If you are staying with High Sierra, yes, but macOS 10.14, named Mojave, was released in September.

I've never had an issue with slowness or Hang on My Mac's  but then I've undated every time a new update came out. I am currently using Mojave 14.0 and  using shifting-Control-S The crosshairs are are up almost instantaneously with the Orange short cut box. If course the machine I use now use as SSD and have 16gb Ram and i7 processor.

That version should be performing well. I would open a ticket with our Tech Support team so they can look into why it's not performing as it should be.

This is also happening with Snagit 2019 and Mojave (10.14).   This is really noticeable when capturing video.  It only happens when you are capturing video in Safari.  If you are capturing video in Chrome, it works just fine.  It appears to be a Safari and Snagit issue (2018 or 2019).   I've opened a support ticket but it doesn't seem they are taking the issue very seriously.  I guess we will just need to wait until more people report it.

Im running 218.2.1 on Mojave and its virtually unusable. The screen capture takes 30-60 seconds and totally locks the Mac during this period.

If you check for updates in Snagit, there is a  2018.2.5 version that should work much better with Mojave.

Hi dear Snagit Team,

Having the same issue here on mac running mojave 10.14.3, snagit 2019.1.1
Every time when taking a screenshot, the "rainbow-wonderwheel" appears....for ages. Pressing "esc" will  stop it and lead to Snagit editor having the actual screenshot present.
anyway, this is working but not satisfying.

I have 2018.2.5 and running OS X 10.14 and have the same issue. Practically unusable due to slow speed of capture.

I have the exact same problem on a brand new 2019 i7 MacBook pro running the latest version of Snagit - Version 2019.1.1 (94025). It's making me look for another capture app. I've been using Snagit for years (almost since it came out), but this is so frustrating!! I have to wait about 30 secs between captures and loading the Snagit editor. Even moving between captured images in Snagit takes about 15 secs. I have turned off the Security and Privacy permissions for Snagit to control my computer. Made no difference!

That shouldn't be happening anymore with version 2019.1.1, I would open a ticket with our Tech Support team to look into why it's still slow for you.

The slowness during capture has been fixed in 2019.1.1, let us know if you're seeing slowness anywhere else.

Thank you, I have automatic updates enabled but this update was not installed, do you know why? 

I am now updated to the latest version (has to do it through the check update menu) will test and come back here if the problem persists. Thank you

Hm, the only thing I can think of is the Snagit editor has to be open for long enough for the download to finish, so that could be it? Either way we'll take a look and make sure that the auto update is working correctly.

I'm almost ready to leave with heispark. It's a small app, plenty of other options. The amount of trouble shooting, writing comments, reading here and hang time is not adding up. It's unusable as it is and complaints are from 2019 and 2018 versions.

Running out of options here Techsmith.

The fix is in 2018.2.6 which was released earlier this week. If it's not showing up when you check for updates, you can download it directly from our website https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions.

Techsmith...stop ignoring the problem...it's not fixed on Mojave using the latest Version 2019.1.1 (94025) downloaded a few days ago. The software is unusable in its current state...so I would suggest you get this sorted ASAP otherwise it's going to be an exodus!

I would encourage you to open a support ticket for this, we have heard from numerous users that 2019.1.1 has resolved this issue. Our support team can either fix the issue or gather information so that our development team can fix what you're running into.

Three of us at work have been complaining about how slow Snagit has been for the last year or so on our macs. Finally, someone looked it up. Upgraded to 2019.1.2. Still slow. Used to be such a great tool.

Before Mojave, no problem. After Mojave, takes 5 seconds between asking to capture (CTRL+SHIFT+C) and screen capture appearing. Totally unacceptable that it's still not fixed.

Terrible response... again.

Slow performing app that is clearly more focused on "stamps" than performance and other features, e.g. the unusable outputs on macOS.

There was a bug with Mojave where capturing could hang for a few seconds that was resolved in the versions I mentioned above. If there are other areas of the product where you're seeing slowness, please let us know!

Same problem, seems somehow related to network... Not sure how and why, as I do have proper internet access... But this is unworkable.. Take up to 1 minute to get crosshair, every time I click capture...

If you open a ticket with our tech support, they might be able to fix this, however Snagit 4 is not supported on macOS 10.14 so you may need to upgrade to Snagit 2019. You can trial it first if you want to make sure that it addresses the performance issue.

I'm having same problem, Snagit is very slow and sometimes causes my system to lockup until I hit the esc key.  I'm running the following...

macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

Yup... This has been an issue for many months.  On my PC (same version), it's almost instant.  On my 2018 MBP, it takes 5-10 seconds for each capture.  It's a serious workflow time suck.  And with built-in tools being instant and more robust, it makes no sense to keep SnagIt on Mac.
