Hi there!

When you go to launch Snagit do you get any errors? What antivirus application are you running? Since installing Snagit 2018 have you restarted the computer? After attempting to open Snagit is it listed in the Windows Task Manager?

Hi Robert

I get a Snagit32.exe Application error (application unable to start correctly 0xc0150004).
I have ZoneAlarm Free running as AV. Switched off during installation.
I have restarted my PC after each attempted install.
Can see SnagIt n task manager

Hope that all helps

Hi;

Zone Alarm is known to be problematic with Snagit; please add an exception for it in Zone Alarm. The error that you received, though, is one that we addressed in Snagit 13 (see here) so I would like to have you right-click on the Snagit application (Snagit32.exe) at C:\Program Files\TechSmith\Snagit 2018\ and choose "Properties" then click on the Details tab; what version is listed?

Apologies for butting in but I have exactly the same problem after upgrading from SnagIt 2013 to 2018 on Windows 10.  The file version of my \Snagit 2018\SnagEditor.exe file is 18.0.1.594.

I'm also having the same issue. I'm currently running Snagit 2018 on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I do not see a version listed under properties/details tab. I only see Snagit 2018.ink. I rely on this tool on a daily basis. Can you help me gain access to it please? Thank you.

Same issue.  Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.  I use SnagIt every day.  Will not start w/system. Selecting menu option will not start.  Going to the SnagIt program folder - will start, but will take about 2-3 minutes. Not too friendly for quick screen captures!!

Hi Diana;

Are you receiving any error messages when you go to launch Snagit? What are those error messages? Are you running the latest available version of Snagit?

Hello All,
Same issue here. With Win10 Ent N 64 (ver 16299) with McAfee and Malwarebytes (both corporate)
I have tried with compatibility mode (windows7) and I had an improvement, but just for 10 sec : the incon appears in the taskbar, but disapears 10 sec later. without compatibility mode computer think for 10 sec, but nothing happens. no error message, and no task in task manager related to snagit.
I have tried to uninstall/reinstall and also repair, but no result.
I have version 18.2.0.1511
Any idea?
Many thanks,
-Pierre

Hi there;

There can be a number of factors unique to each user's computer setup as to why there is a soft-crash in Snagit after launching it so I suggest opening a support ticket where our team can take a look at a number of logs/diagnostics to determine the issue. You can open a support ticket here.

Hello All again,

Issue solved for me. Thanks Robert for the tips ;)
I had to install the Media Feature Pack for windows 10N from microsoft website.
So I have downloaded it for the right version of my OS and it's working fine now.
Here is the link just in case :

Note:  There is a registry entry: Snagit 2018 EnableWavAudio that appears to solve the problem...[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\Features\snagit]
"AllowMfAudioCapture"=dword:00000000

SnagIt 2018 stopped working on my windows 10 pro.  After a couple of attempts to fix it, I gave up and figured I'd try snagit 2019.  Same problem.  Icon is in the program list.  Clicking it results in an open program indicator on my taskbar but I don't see any controls/cant open a window.  Snagit has been my go to program for years, this is very discouraging.  Could it be a conflict with Microsoft's new snip and sketch utility in windows 10.

If that doesn't work, you may try clicking on the taskbar icon to give it focus, then press the Alt+Spacebar keys.
Then the letter M.
Then press any of your four arrow keys.
Then wiggle your mouse around in the center of the screen.

Hope one of these helps! Rick :)

Did you ever manage to get it working? If so, what fixed it?

No joy so far.  I have uninstalled it, rebooted the machine, reinstalled it.  Installation says successful.  Tried your ideas, no joy.  Nothing I have tried works either.  I have a license at work and its working fine there.  Same operating system.  Just composed a guide book for restarting our servers and did lots of screen shots with no problem.  But its not working on my laptop.   Separate licenses so its not a problem with me playing games with the licenses.

The program window may be off the screen (which SHOULD not be possible)
or the the program has been moved under the Task Bar

Try the keyboard commands to relocate the program to a part of the screen you can see.

    Put your mouse over (do NOT click) the program in the Task Bar until the preview appears directly above it
    Hold Shift and Right Click on the preview and select MOVE
    Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to relocate to a part of the screen you can see
    Press the ENTER key on your keyboard when it is moved
    You can then use the mouse to move and resize the window

PROGRAM HAS BEEN RESIZED TO A SINGLE PIXEL

Not common at all but it does happen. Use keyboard commands to resize the program window:

    Put your mouse over (do NOT click) the program in the Task Bar until the preview appears directly above it
    Hold Shift and Right Click on the preview and select SIZE or MOVE
    Press the Down or Right arrow key on the keyboard have it resize to what should be its minimum size
    Press the ENTER key on your keyboard when it is moved
    You can then use the mouse to resize the window as you see fit

If none of these options work:

    Put your mouse over (do NOT click) the program in the Task Bar until the preview appears directly above it
    Right Click on the preview and select MAXIMIZE

If the program appears full screen, then it is running but is just not visible to you.  Click RESTORE and try both of the options above again.

Maximize and Size are greyed out.  Only Move and Close are enabled.

Have you tried opening any of the available menu  items from the system tray by right clicking the SnagIt Icon?

It actually doesn't have an icon in the tray.  I only get the icon for a running program in the task bar but the tray area doesn't have anything for Snagit..  and the preview that appears over the taskbar icon when clicked is blank other than for a close button.

Contacting tech support is your only logical move at this point. In my opinion.

That icon appears in the system tray when SnagIt's running. So it would only be there if it were running in the background.

Tech supports usually responds within a few the 24 hours in my experience.And its free.

That would be my next move.You could end up typing your fingers away here. And wind up in the same place next week.
We try our best, but tech support might have solved this already, if they were involved.

Your move.

You should have a icon in the system tray.  Snagit showing may be off in your settings.

Personalization > Taskbar > notification area.

Wondering if the problem may be a display driver issue??

Weird it doesn't show in the taskbar preview too.

This may be one for the Techsmith techs like Joe said.

I was able to work a solution by using the last step (option 6) in this tech support article from TechSmith.  Basically I had to force software rendering for snag it.  But it appears to have solved all my snagit related problems.
