After the update to the new version SnagIt Editor keeps crashing. It starts and crashes without any error after a few seconds.
System ist Windows 10.
I already did a clean reinstall.

FWIW, I had a minor hiccup. The first time I installed it, the installation failed. I received a pop-up message. I do not know where the message came from. I think it is via Windows 10 "Notifications" feature. The message disappeared after a few seconds and I could not find it. The only part I remember seeing is: "1 error." I then installed Snagit again and it installed with no errors. I did not do a clean install.

I have been using it and it is working. The one minor issue I have is the Snagit OneClick keeps disappearing. This  issue has been around in the last two or three releases. To fix it: Show hidden icons > right-click the orange Snagit icon > un-tick Snagit OneClick (to turn it off) and then repeat to turn it on.

HTH,

Jeff

George,

Thanks for the reminder. I am glad it installed the second time as I have no idea what Event ID 1000 means. It looks like it was trying to delete the previous version??? Event Viewer

The error appears to indicate an issue with the .NET runtime.  A Google search reveals Event ID 1026 is known issue.  Do you in fact have .NET 4.6 or later installed on your system, which is a system requirement for SnagIt? See the following URL.

If it were me,
I would delete the SnagIt 20 folder from the registry.
This will reset a few settings to default mode.

As an example, I just deleted SnagIt 2019's folder from my computer.
The toolbar was unchanged and it remembered all my quick styles, presets, etc.
I took a screen shot before deleting the folder. Its what you see in the canvas area.

The program re-set to the "Light" themed UI.
Some user preferences like "Send anonymous usage data", "Automatically check for updates" and things of this nature. Are changed to default.
Overall, most preferences stay intact. But you should go through both the capture and editor preferences menus.Make sure things are as you desire.

Bottom line, theres some inconvenience associated with this move.

TechSmiths tech suggests this technique quite often.

If that didn't work.I would probably contact tech support.

Or you could just contact them first.
