Snagit 2020 for Mac Not Saving Recent Tray Captures

I've been using Snagit for many years now and love it. Mostly on my work Windows PC but also on my Mac at home. I just upgraded to Snagit 2020 for my Mac Mini and seeing an odd issue.

I first had the issue where my software key was not being saved and I thought that might be the issue. But I found a solution here related to permissions and when I corrected that for the registration file it now is saved.

The issue is that when I quit Snagit and then reopen, all my recents disappear. There is this odd "empty" capture and ONLY the last capture I took stays in the recents. My captures do stay in the library.

I searched my Mac for every folder named 'techsmith' or 'snagit' and set read/write priv. recursively down to all the subfolders and files. Still not working.

Ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us. You may have found this in your folder search, but the file where we store the recent tray items lives at ~/Library/Group Containers/7TQL462TU8.com.techsmith.snagit/Snagit 2020/TrayContents.bin, so make sure that all has read/write permissions. If that doesn't work, you can try giving Snagit full disk access (we promise we don't snoop around on your file system)

If those don't help, then I would open a ticket with our Tech Support so they can dig deeper into what's going on.

Thank you. Guess I will have to put in a ticket.

I have all permissions for Snagit set to God-like and nothing works. I even tried to reinstall it. Nada.

Your reference to the bin file:
~/Library/Group Containers/7TQL462TU8.com.techsmith.snagit/Snagit 2020/TrayContents.bin,

did not have the bin file INSIDE the Snagit 202 folder. Rather, it was in the 7TQL462TU8.com.techsmith.snagit folder.

I even tried to duplicate it in the 2020 folder, nope.

It's just odd that the library keeps all the captures and that the recents tray only shows the last capture and a goofy blank capture file. Even if I delete it and start the editor again. Snagit recreates this blank image and plops it into the recents tray. On my Win PC, Snagit does not behave like this.

The one inside the 7TQL462TU8 folder is likely leftover from Snagit 4, and shouldn't have any impact on this. The lack of a tray contents in the snagit 2020 folder is definitely strange, hopefully support is able to get that figured out for you.
