Snagit 2020 Used To Capture Automatically, What Happened?

I used to be able to hit print screen and it'd allow me to take a pic whether the app was open or not. If it wasn't, I could still take a pic and the editor "would then" open up. But now... I have to open snagit, open capture and then hit print screen.

What happened to simply pressing the print screen button (app opened or not) and it just worked... Automagically?

My guess; the 'Prt scr' key has been hijacked by another app. Check the 'Hotkeys' tab in 'Snagit Capture Preferences'.

Then you might check the 'Capture Presets' for 'Image'

or 'All-in-One'.

Thanks for that David. I saw your post (and many others) on this, went through and applied everything suggested tweek by everyone and still have the same issue.

Unlike some other peoples experience, my prt-sc button does work.

The point is:

It used to work whether I had the capture window open or not; or Snagit for that matter, just press the button and voila, you take a pic. Just like any other native app, program or for that matter Snagit 2019 and even 2020 when first came out.

But for the last few months, since they made the capture window a gadget to stay sort of hidden at the top of the screen, (quite annoying I might add) that ability is now gone.

If I want to take a pic (and the program's not open) I have two or three extra steps instead of just tapping the button.

Hopefully they'll bring that back or at least have a workaround.

You haven't experienced this???

Again, thanks for your reply.

Have you tried a repair install yet? If not, I would give that a try and failing that, submit a 'Help' ticket. It is a free service. Click here.

Many keyboards have dual function keys. On mine, the PrtScn key is shared with the Insert key.

There is a switch on my keyboard (may be an Fn key on some) that switches the function key assignments.

The CAD/CAM programs I'm in the majority of the time use the standard function key settings, I have to switch to enable PrtScn when I want Snagit...

Another thing to consider is that maybe SnagIt was configured to start with Windows and an update or something changed that behavior. So if the capture part isn't running, of course the capture will not occur.

It's worth noting that SnagIt has two parts. There is the part that runs and provides the capture mechanism, and the Editor, which typically opens when a capture occurs.

Open the SnagIt capture part and click File > Capture Preferences...

Cheers... Rick :)

If SnagIt capture is set as follows.............

SnagIt starts with Windows.
One Click won't launch.
The Capture Window will reside in the system tray, ready to be accessed if needed.
