SnagIt - Auto capture Freezes on Mac after using for sometime. How can I restart SnagIt

This problem has occurred in previous versions of SnagIt as well as current. This is disruptive to restart system to correct SnagIt function.  Current SI version 3.2.3 (78021), OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

Hi,

Sorry about this! We are looking into fixing this and hope to have an update out soon. Unfortunately, we no longer support Snagit version 3, so the fix will only be for 4. On thing you can do to save yourself from having to restart all the time is to just restart the Snagit capture helper by selecting quit (shown in the screenshot), and then opening Snagit again to get the capture window back.

This also could be a case of the Snagit app not responding in which case the Quit command will not do anything. If so, use the key combination of Command-Option-Escape. The result is a window of running apps. If Snagit shows "Not Responding," then select it and click the Force Quit button. You will next get a confirm message which you should approve. After a few seconds, just start the app again.

Hi,

This issue is resolved in our 4.1.0 update. (Note: Snagit 4 is a paid upgrade from snagit 3. More Info)

This is happening on the latest version too - I am on macOS mohave - 10.14.1 (new macbook airs) and using snagit2019.1

Hi,

Are you on Snagit 2019.1.0 or 2019.1.1? There was another similar issue that is fixed in 2019.1.1

I'm on Mac OS 10.15.3 and I have Snagit 2020. The video recorder just freezes during the countdown and rebooting doesn't help. Snagit and Camtasia both have rights to access the mic, camera and screen capture. The techsmith recorder downloaded from the screencast site worked for a few sessions, but now it too is having problems – when I start the capture it says that I need to give it permission for screen capture, but every single app in privacy-->screen capture has permission. None of this makes sense.

Hi,

Sorry things aren't working correctly!

I would probably open up a ticket with our Tech Support and they will help you out on Monday when office hours resume. If you'd like to try something now, you can open up Terminal and run 

tccutil reset -All com.TechSmith.Snagit2020

This will reset all the system permissions for Snagit and allow you to choose them again, which may help with this issue.
