Snagit bug: This document could not be saved

In Snagit 4.1.1 (Mac) some PNG files can't be saved. The error message is: This document ... could not be saved. File info in Finder shows that Alpha channel is set to No in such files.

How can save such a file?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this, we will look into what is going on. For now, you can open the image in preview and take a capture of it with Snagit.

Thanks! I usually open the image with another application, save it and then I can also edit and save it with Snagit. This problem already exists since version 3.

Yes, really bad. This gets on my nerves every day. It affects all images where the bit- depth has been modified for compression. Snagit is the only image editor I know that is unable to handle such images.

Still a problem and I am running 2018.1.2  Did anyone find a fix for this yet?

This is a Snagit bug and Techsmith obviously is not interested in fixing it. This Snagit bug affects images where the bit depth has been modified. You first have to save the image in another image tool, then you can also edit and save it Snagit.

Hi,

We have actually been looking into this issue and hope to have a fix out soon. I'll report back when the fix is available.

I am also having lots of trouble with this. It rears its ugly head on the Mac version of Snagit a lot. I have an image with text in it, I save-as a PNG, I give it a name, and it says it cannot save. Same with JPG. If I try to save as PDF it works and then when I open the PDF it's blank! If I try to duplicate the image and save, it can't save. If I try to flatten the whole image, copy all and save into a new image, nothing pastes! As if I copied a blank layer somehow. It's REALLY AGGRAVATING! I should've stuck with editing it in Affinity Photo.

I don't think the problem is not if text is in the image. Snagit can't save images if the number of colors have been reduced, The only workaround is to first save the image with another app. I usually use the free version of PhotoScape. I really wonder why Techsmith needs so long to fix this simple bug.

Hi,

We released a 2018.2.0 update today that now supports CMYK and Greyscale images without any need to convert them! If you run into any images that still don't work, we'd love a copy of those images so we can try to support them as well.

Before the update I opened one of my trouble images (a png), I tried save-as, it would not save.... So I upgraded to 2018.2.0 and tried again, and IT WORKED! Good job - looks like the problem was solved.
