For me it started with last Windows 10 upgrade - pic attached - if I close snag it first this doesn't happen.  But it did not used to happen, why the change in behavior?

This just started happening with the 2018 SnagIt. I have this annoying message when I shut down or restart Windows 10.

I took SnagIt out of autostart; but even when I manually start it, I have to remember to shut it off, or I get the message. It doesn't seem wise to just shut down anyway.

C'mon, TechSmith. Please fix this.

I have no issues (Windows 10 PC with latest Microsoft patches, Snagit 2018). I did have the issue with Snagit 13. When I had Snagit 13, I adopted a habit of closing Snagit (via the tray and OneClick) before shutting down -- annoying but worked. I agree that TechSmith should fix this for Snagit 13 users. Other Snagit 2018 users may have a conflict with another app (or device driver?).

I likewise am having same issue with Snagit not allowing windows 10 to shutdown since Fall Creator Update.  I did find that if I hide One Click...the problem does not occur.  This issue started with Snagit 13.1.4 and had hoped x2018 would resolve...no change.  Prior to Fall Creator update ...13.1.4 Snagit worked fine.  Techsmith support had me try several things without resolve.  They are asking for me to do firmware - driver update...but I don't think that will fix issue.  The ONLY issue I'm having with Fall Creator update is Snagit.  Hoping Techsmith will look into update incompatibility.

In communicating with them today, I "think" they realize that there may be a compatibility issue with Snagit and Fall Creator Update.  In fairness to Techsmith...MS has a way of breaking things. I'll be patient and hope that either MS and/or Techsmith find the issue. Just hoping it sooner than later.

To be fair, Microsoft lets software developers pre-test Windows upgrades/updates. A company can even test out using the "fast" insiders ring. If TechSmith failed to do that, it's not a ding on Microsoft.  I have this same issue -- only since installing Snagit 2018 on a Windows 10 desktop (and -- I believe -- even prior to Windows Creator Update)

Me too!   Since installing Snagit 2018 in Windows 10 Fall Creators edition my PC will NOT SHUTDOWN normally.  I have to go back and close Snagit, then the PC will shutdown.   Very annoying.  It's the only software that causes this problem.

You can also choose the "Just shutdown anyway" type link, which seems to cause no issues. But that means you have to stay at the computer till the screen comes up. It's very annoying.

Hi all;

This is something that we are currently investigating; for those having technical issues it is strongly recommended that you open a support ticket, as that is the fastest way to report issues that you come across.

You can open a ticket here.

Tech Smith's answer is to BUY/upgrade Snagit 2018 for $25! Something stinks here! IMO they're looking for revenue which is total BS!

I even bought the update a while ago but I decided to keep using version 12 because they completely messed up the UI in version 13. So even if you are willing to pay (or have already paid) they are not helping you (unless you are willing to use their crappy new software).

To be fair to Techsmith. I called their tech support a second time. Complained about the Win 10 restart hang. They gladly offered me a courtesy v2018 key to upgrade from v13.  The only real difference between v13 and v2018 is text copy and it's 64 bit vs 32 bit. However the restart hang is fixed. If I didn't love this piece of software I would not have complained. I would have just moved on and tried something else.

I had the issue of getting that "app still open" message when trying to shutdown my system. I just lived with it. Then I upgraded to Snagit 2018 and right after I installed the upgrade and then it asked me to restart my computer, my system never worked again after I restarted the system. My mouse and keyboard were rendered non functional. So I could not even get in a do a safe start. I could not enter my windows password and the password entry box was not displayed either. The mouse and keyboard worked when I went into the Bios so they are OK, but being affected by something corrupted or changed. I finally had to take my system in to have Windows 10 reinstalled becuase the shop could not do any simple fix to get it back working. So Now I am scared to install Snagit. I am upset about this since I like Snagit but my confidence level is very low at the moment. I have not yet looked at the workaround at the top of this piece of comment, so I will look at it. Anybody have any confidence a this point in time that the issue has been resolved? Thanks!

I was a Techsmith raving fan, but issue like this undermine that confidence in their products. I just continue to live with the issue and I'm not going to upgrade anymore until the basics are sorted. I'll use Mac version instead.

I'm having this issue in 13.1.5 after I got the Win 10 Fall Creator Update as well and I don't want to upgrade.  My office won't pay for it.

I would sure like the SnagIt folks to do a really complete and robust investigation into these issues we are seeing above! I am not confident with re-installing SnagIt at this point in time since there are too many big outstanding issues with no clear and definite resolution. Damn, I really like the product but I cannot afford the time and money it will cost me to go thru another disasterous system crash.

Turning off OneClick worked in my case.  Which is fine because I don't really use it all that much.
