Snagit causing my mac to hang

I'm frustrated with snagit

I've had my MBpro for 3 years and there's only a handful of times I needed to restart my mac forcefully by using the power button and 8/10 it's all from snagit

I've talked to tech support once before and it somewhat resolved the problem I was having, but yet it appeared again today.

Oh and it takes ages to load with the icon just jumping around when I open them

Anyone else having problem with this? I'm thinking of changing to another software if this keeps happening, not worth reinstalling my whole system just because of one buggy software

Hi,

So sorry about this, is the hang happening when you try to take a capture, or some other time?

As for launch time, we made some improvements for launching with large images loaded in the tray in 2020.1.4 (released yesterday), so I'd be curious if that version works better for you.

it always happens when I try to capture an image, I use the mac command shift 4 and then it relayed it into snagit editor

Now I'm changing the shortcut for snagit default capture to command shift 1 to see if that's going to be more stable in the long run

Hi,

I just wanted to follow up and see if the 2020.1.4 update and the changed shortcut have improved things for you.

Another point. From what you said, it sounds from here like you are quitting Snagit after each use. My deduction is based on your statement about the icon jumping around, etc....

If you are not letting Snagit run full time, I would advise that you do. Also, do you shut down the Mac after each session?  Same advice. Close the shell and let it sleep. Restart occasionally for RAM cleanup. And this results in a longer life for the Mac.

Thanks, I do let the small icon run all the time and never close them, while the editor I will close anytime I think there's too much app on the taskbar, which one are you referring to?

I'll shutdown the mac too more frequently I guess

I was only inquiring as to whether you let Snagit run all the time.. Your reply tells me "Yes" you do....  As to the other part, not just Macs but all computers, smart phones, tablets, etc... live longer and operate more smoothly if one lets them run 24/7/365 with an occasional restart to clean up RAM usage. (By occasionally, I mean once or twice a month.)

Also, this narrows the problem as it shows that it is not a Snagit startup problem. That will help to get to a solution.
