So using Snagit 4.07 on MacOS (Sierra). I have admin rights on my system, but the software prompts me to enter the license key every time I start it.

Hey Joel,

Sorry about the trouble with Snagit.

When you enter your key on this screen, does the "Unlock" button turn to an enabled state (button color turns blue and is clickable)?

I have the same issue, I enter my key, unlock it and it works fine. But if I close and reopen it keeps asking for the license key again.

This seems like strange behavior and I am on a PC and not Mac. Hopefully Robert R. will chime in or Jason Eagleston.

Have you tried contacting TechSmith Support with this issue as they are better equipped to diagnose and answer the question or find the problem and get it fixed/resolved. If no other employee jumps in to answer this I would contact support and if it is important and needs immediate attention then I would fill out a support ticket now and they are usually great in getting back with you.

Sorry for the inconvenience and hope this helps a little bit. Thanks for post and please keep us updated and post back what had to be done to fix this issue for others to see who may be experiencing the same issue. Feedback is always great to see in this user to user forum. Have a great day/night.

Regards ~ Fred.

Hi Tyler;

The issue here is related to permissions; while your account might be an administrator account, this issue happens if Snagit itself does not have the elevated privileges to retain the software key. Fortunately the fix should be relatively simple; please completely exit Snagit and Snagit Editor (via the "File - Exit" menus, not the red X way of closing) and then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\TechSmith\Snagit 13\ and locate Snagit32.exe and right-click on it and choose "Run as Administrator." This will start Snagit with fully elevated privileges, which should alleviate the issue. Simply activate the program by entering your key (go to the Help menu and choose Activate/Enter Key if you are not immediately prompted). Once activated, please go to File - Exit once more then start Snagit normally. The key should be retained.

Confirmed that myeganeh solution works. Old thread but obviously the issue still happens. Ive been having a lot of permission issues because i had to change the admin acct on the mac, so thats prob the cause.

Just wanted to comment for others as this has resurfaced with the new lock down on security with Catalina.  The fix posted by myeganeh works with one minor change, otherwise it is super simple.
  • In finder, go to:  /users/shared
  • Create a folder there "TechSmith"
  • Get info on the folder, and ensure everyone has read/write permission.
  • Go in there and create a folder "Snagit"
  • Relaunch and you should be good to go after entering your serial.
