Snagit Editor Interface (How to change color)

Right out of the box (I am running Windows 7 BTW) the top menu bar on the Snagit Editor is all black in both the ribbon and dropdown menus. I can handle all black with reverse white type in the dropdown menus, but NOT with the ribbon. The app is broderline unusable.

I've used your product for years and got another license for this new computer of mine. I don't mean to be a pain but if there isn't a solution for this I will ask for a refund.

BTW: I tried to take a screen cap, but alas I guess you can't take a screen cap of your screen cap program.

Lighter themes are coming. "Supposedly".
Look at the main Response in this thread that Jason posted. https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/snagit_12_color_scheme_is_so_dark_can_it_be_changed

He States  >>> In the coming week, I will be reaching out with a few mockups for our idea of the light theme in hopes to gain your insights and feedback.

To Date,  I've seen No such thing.

Any Updates on this Jason???

Hi Joe

I was one of the more vocal folks and I've seen the mockups. Can't wait!

As for the basic interface with the editor area, admittedly it took me a while to sort exactly how to change it.

You have to right-click and you will see an option for changing background color.

Cheers... Rick :)

Oh, I thought you might wonder how I was able to capture the image of the editor,

From the capture window, click Preferences, then clear the option for hiding SnagIt when a capture is taken.

Note that SnagIt refused to allow me to capture the image below. I had to use a different method for that. Then I added the annotations using SnagIt.

Cheers... Rick :)

Hi Tommy - In the newly released 12.2 update, you can change the Editor color scheme and/or the Editor background canvas color in the General section of Editor Options. I hope this helps.

Changing the color scheme to light is better.  I might use v12 a little more because of it but the v11 UI still remains to my liking.  This new flat look isn't my cup of tea.

I'm Unimpressed. I've gone from the "Dark Horse" to "Blinded by the Light".

I wonder haw many people kept SnagIt 12 longer than the 30 day refund period
after reading the Post listed Below?

I like SnagIt 12, But if you just turned the Grey colors of the Black Theme "White". It would have been better in my opinion.

Hi Joe

I think if the colors were white it would be just as bad (if not worse) than the black!

Do I think it's perfect? Nope - Not by a long shot. I really wanted it to be more "version 11 like", but the developers are intent on changes.

For what it's worth, I agree totally with Manny. I will use it more than I did when it was all solid black, but I still totally dislike the "flat" look of the icons and find that it takes me longer to use than 11 did because now I have to stare at the icons searching for the one I want.

And, I guess I'm hard headed because even though it changed in version 11, I *STILL* find myself looking in the old place for the "Copy All" button, noticing it is missing, then performing mental calisthenics and remembering it was moved and finally looking in the new place.

Then again, what do I know? I still expect to click the Image tab followed by Trim to get to the "Custom Trim" function that has been hidden in the Resize button since 10 arrived!

I guess you have to choose your battles, eh? ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

Well I just upgraded (???) to Snagit 12 and I find the colors as bad as Office 2013.  Both apps lack a feel and functionality one came to expect.  New features aside, if I continue to have a hard time finding which app I'm on, I'll simply revert back to Snagit 11 and skip the 'new' features.

I just upgraded also and I cannot seem to get to change the colors as I use to be able to with Snagit v11. Albeit the application is functional and professional looking but the color scheme I think is relying on looking like everyone else and in all simplicity you should just keep the ability to change colors for the customer as we all just don't like autocracy but democracy when we use applications. Thanks.

EDIT: The application was telling me that I had the recent version but when I looked it said v12 build 1001. So I did a download of the recent version and now I can change colors.

To exit DARK- Go to Editor, at bottom toward middle (left of Exit Editor), look for Editor Options-you can change it between dark and light & then you'll see more options for capture background- light gray, gray, dark (default) white. I thought I would want white but after a week with the dark, it's too bright!
