SnagIt Mac v4.1.10, Chrome browser (latest), and native dropdown menu capture not working even with delay?

Based on the title, I can capture dropdown menus that are native to Mac Finder and other Mac apps, but not Chrome (or Safari or Firefox). Yes, I tried the delay timer feature but ng.

What happens is that I click on a dropdown menu which displays normally then trigger the capture key sequence (usually Shift-Ctrl-C) but no SnagIt capture appear. When I click off or select a dropdown menu item, then the SnagIt capture appears.

I've had to resort to Apple's Cmd-Shift-4 to capture - ugh!

Any ideas?

TIA

Hi,

Unfortunately Chrome and Firefox don't use native menus, so menu capture won't work. I was able to just use a standard Snagit region capture to capture a menu in Chrome. Note that you'll have to use a hotkey to start the capture otherwise the menu dismisses. Let us know if this works for you.

I used to be able to do this, I swear I could.  @Luke, are you sure nothing's changed since the update?  I found a work around, but this is frustrating.

Hi,

I'm able to capture dropdowns in Chrome with Snagit 4.1.10, without even using a delay. Are there specific websites that aren't working?

@PiperTWilson I agree, I used to do browser screen captures all the time including HTML dropdown menus to help explain things (proverbial "pictures worth a 1000 words") to customers and now SnagIt doesn't work and I have to resort to Apple's default screen capture.

I still use SnagIts editor (which the Mac version is still not as good as Windows iirc) but its better than learning something else all over again.

Hi Rob,

When you say that the Mac version of Snagit's editor is not as good as Windows, are there specific features that we're missing that you'd like to see? We have done a fair amount of catching up in the last year or 2, so it's possible that our latest version has it already.

@Luke - Would you contact me off line? I made a video of the problem I'm having with the drop down menus, but I don't know how to load it up to any of those sites that are available and the file is too big to load up here?

@Luke I have the same problem that Rob Mitchell has logged in his original post. All was OK until I upgraded my Mac to IOS 10.14.1 (Mojave). Must I upgrade Snagit 4 to Snagit 2019 for Mac?

Hi,

I would recommend seeing if the trial version of 2019 works for you. I was able to capture dropdowns with Snagit 4.1.10 on macOS 10.14.1, so I can't confidently say that it's fixed in 2019.

Hi,

I just tried this in 4.1.10 and 2019.0.1 and both versions appear to act the same. I was however able to capture menus in Chrome using the menu capture feature in Snagit. If you're unfamiliar with menu capture, here's an article on how it works https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203731168-Snagit-Mac-Capturing-a-Dropdown-Menu. I hope this helps!

Edit: to clarify, I'm referring to the context menus you see when you right click on a tab.

Hi Luke

Snagit 2019 gives me the same result as Snagit 4.1.10.
I've attached a screen shot of what I used to be able to capture using Snagit in High Sierra.

Here is a link to that page on my test site http://annatest.play-cricket.com/website/web_pages/183804 Click on the Filters dropdown and then try to capture any of the dropdown lists.

Thanks for the additional info! I see the same thing you are, so we can take a look and see why our captures are getting blocked when a menu is active.

Hi,

This issue should be fixed in our 2018.2.5 and 2019.1.0 updates, which were released today.

Hi,

Where do I find/DL the 2018.2.5 or 2019.1.0 updates? I use "Check for updates..." and there are none for my license.

On my MacBookPro El Capitan v10.11.6 I start the Snagit app and using its own Mac menu bar, I click and hold File menu drop down, I press the Ctl-Shift-C key but there's no Snagit selection area to capture. What should I do? This used to work and now it doesn't.

Hi,

You can download any current / older version of Snagit here https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

Note that 2019 no longer supports macOS 10.11, so you'll have to use 2018
