Snagit Microphone - Turning it on/off

I am using Snagit 2020.0.2 (64 bit) on a PC running Win10 (64 bit) - all up to date.  My security suite (Bit Defender) keeps reporting that Snagit is accessing my microphone despite me having turned off the microphone and audio (video grab setting).

I wish to turn it off permanently unless I need it for a specific purpose - have I missed a setup?

Just a guess, you downloaded the mic's drivers from a third party site? Even if I'm wrong, I've steered you down the correct path, I promise.

This may require tech support.

SnagIt 2018 had a simular problem. It lit up users webcams as soon as they started SnagIt .
Heres the related support article.

Updating drivers may very well resolve it?

However, Tech support is free and are there if you need them.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I have tried Joe's suggestion and edited the registry for the 'audio auto-start' to off at start up and will see if that fixes it.

Ed, thanks also, I am using a Logitech camera with mic and using one of their drivers.  if Joe's solution does not work I will look at changing their driver (I am pretty sure it is up to date but will check this).

I also noted that 2019 was not uninstalled when I updated (??) and wonder if that may have been a carry-over?
