Chris with all due respect to your response and closing the request for not including SnagIt Notes in the 2018 release the topic should not even be a point of discussion or a matter up to the number of votes. Most users do not even know about the voting ability as such you do not get a full picture of how many users are missing it. No software update should ever take away a feature that has been in so many releases unless it is harming the performance. Your code is in place and needs to be updated. I am sure this is not a major challenge based on all the other recoding done to update the software which has been done well.
Your team has always done an outstanding job and I am shocked that you have decided not to release a 2018 version of this sharing capability. You have one of the best screen capture software programs and you are suggesting using another program to do something your system has done well for years, that makes no sense and none of the programs referenced accept your screen captures, that is why your software offered it in the first place. I am respectfully asking for reconsideration of the updated SnagitNote feature. As a person who has been using your program since version one and recommends your software very often to others, I am reluctant to upgrade my other personal computers and those of colleagues until I see what other features you have removed.
I know you and your team is better than this and you should not rely on the voting as a true indicator and sole indicator of customer satisfaction. You should note that when I called to see why the downloaded file for SnagIt Note did not work one of the techs referenced I was the second call of the day looking for the updated version of Sangit Note for 2018.
Thank you for your reconsideration.

I've been playing around in Photoshop to make a point in my own way.
My rebuttal has been written for a while and my image is now complete. It goes as follows.
I personally, never used SnagIt Notes.
I thought they were pretty cool when I first looked at them.
108 people voted to bring them back/Keep them/whatever. I figure most SnagIt
users don't visit this forum or cast votes.
This whole voting process is flawed for that reason.
TechSmith cannot possibly know how many people are let down by the
disappearance of this feature.
Plus you use SnagIt captures to post images along with your notes if so
desired. A perfect fit, or so it would seem to me.
From my perspective, SnagIt notes should be the one of the easiest and simplest
features to maintain.
It's not a feature request, it already exists.
I don't think people are looking for SnagIt notes for their Smart Phones. If
they are, tell them to find a smart phone app.
R.I.P. SnagIt Notes.

You are the perfect candidate to push for this feature. Recently,TechSmith has reveled in this forum their main goals for SnagIt.
Our primary focus is on technical communication and technology training use cases.

Well that sure sounds like you to me.
As you say, your reluctantly looking at jumping ship because you use this feature daily.
I use SnagIt and Camtasia. I don't wish any Ill will on them.My methodology to drive home a point, has been know to ruffle some feathers.
However, it's not mean spirited. It's intended to get ones attention. Because obviously, no one is listening to the request any longer.
You and your Colleagues amount to several licenses. $$$
Apparently your money is no longer good around here. Or is it????

From the way it sounds, it was similar to a feature Microsoft once touted in Windows and was known as "scraps".
This kind of reminds me of features like the "channels" Microsoft used to offer. Or the dynamic linking and embedding. Features that were probably useful, but they were difficult to grasp by the masses, so they never got used much. Possibly because of that, they were dropped altogether.

But if there's an excuse for dropping and losing loyal customers. You seem to be first in line to look for that excuse, rational or not. Created out of thin air and your own mind. You simply want to defend TechSmith, right or wrong.
Since when is losing money and customers a winning strategy? Don't bother trying to answer that for me, because there is no justification you can sell me on.It would only be a waste of your time to try.
This Idea didn’t get enough votes to be under consideration for a release in the NEXT YEAR OR SO.
Ah well, if TechSmith want's to turn their back on "X" number of customers and their money. That's their prerogative.
I've had some free time, so I've been revisiting my Photoshop tutorials. There's been some revisions to the death of SnagIt notes.

Bill started this thread.
He has been using SnagIt since Version 1. He want's SnagIt Note's brought back.
You offer no words of support or even contributed positive support to his request/question at this time.

This tread isn't about me or you.
If you can't support Bills request. Maybe you should consider staying out of it.

We need to MAKE SURE they are counting correctly and not ignoring certain threads that should be combined to get an accurate total. There were a couple of issues that have been spread over many threads that never seem to get enough votes

Please bring this feature back so that I do not regret upgrading...

IMO, it makes no sense to remove a small unobtrusive feature from an update. If others don't use it, it just sits there. Maybe the issue needs to be more training on little used features.
As we have seen in the posts above, there are many who may not even know it is there or what it's usefulness is.
Or.... okay.... develop something that is similar in design. I really need something that I can put on my desktop so that I can see multiple captures at the same time (side-by-side) and can make notes on. As the interface is now, I can only see one capture at a time unless I flip back and forth. And I don't want to have to look at them in a Word (or other) document. I just want to be able to have 4-5 captures viewable on my desktop at one time.
Help??? I just don't see why you would delete code for a program feature that already exists! No sense!!!
Thanks!
P.S. I just wanted to add that until after I posted this did I even see the Vote button in the top corner. I have had several discussions over the last year with different people regarding this feature and never have I realized there was actual voting involved. This method of determining which features to add/keep/delete is helpful in knowing what users want, but I had no idea this was a thing until I saw the 'voting' announcement pop up in my application this morning.

As you say the real issue at hand is seeing more than one capture at a time, have you investigated SnagIt's new feature of combining images? Basically, from the Recents tray, you select the images you want to combine, right-click and choose Combine Images. You will see an intermediate window offering options. But once you set those and click the Continue button, you end up with a single image that shows all the images you selected. And you may annotate them or whatever to your liking.
If you were already aware of that feature and for some reason it just doesn't work for you, perhaps post back and tell TechSmith why. Or offer ways in which it needs improvement.
Cheers... Rick :)

You'd still have to edit the currently selected one in the main canvas, but dodging back and forth along the tray, adding annotations here and there is something I do already. It'd just be better if the tray was deeper.
But of course this is NOTHING like the Notes function (which I too was unaware of even as a user for 17 years.)
In TechSmith's defence, I think what happened with 2018 was that it was a change of development platform. You get to a point where you can't easily develop the product further on the current platform. You know you have to change. You know you are going to upset loyal customers, but you have no choice.
As with any major technology switch you have to ask yourself what legacy functionality to recreate in the new. In the absence of usage data you are between a rock and a hard place. If you ask the user community they will instinctively say they want everything. A) You don't have the bandwidth to recode everything and B) there will be some features that are little used and wouldn't justify the redevelopment costs.
I may, of course, be totally wrong. :)

Yet here you are, asking for the return of the Custom Trim Feature.

That's an ironic position to take.

So at the same time, you’re actually defending their right. To take away the features you use on a regular basis. Whether you like it or not, no matter how much it inconveniences you. For the exact same justifications.
He’s asking for the return of a feature, you’re asking for the return of the feature.
Except your here dumping water on his campfire. Offering workarounds and given TechSmith the nod for what they’ve done.
I prefer advocacy for fellow product users. I don’t believe there are many people, that are interested in my opinion. As to why, there feature requests may be doomed. To me, it’s best not to visit the subject.
