SnagIt Saves the Day!

I thought everyone would get a kick out of this feedback since it’s probably not the norm.

I’ve been using SnagIt for a few years now. Part of my job is creating training manuals and presentations and I decided to buy SnagIt after all the disappointment and limited features in other similar software. Up until last week I only ever used SnagIt for screen captures and short video tutorials.  Then disaster struck...

I was leading an online training session which requires a desktop share so participants can see my screen. I’ve been doing these training sessions for over a decade but on this day I made a rookie mistake. I forgot to enable “clean screen” which hides any open windows and icons to users watching your presentation. So of course mid-way through the training the presentation crashes and my desktop is revealed. In the few moments it took me to restart the presentation there were some rather embarrassing files on my desktop that were noticed. Don't ask.

Of course I was mortified but I figured what’s done is done and tried to forget about it. That is, until I remembered all our training sessions are recorded and published on our website. I desperately needed to edit 30 seconds out of the middle of that video and repost it but I’ve never done any video editing in my life. I did a few searches, installed a few programs, followed some online tutorials but 2 hours later I still couldn’t figure out how to properly edit out the middle of a video. Hey, don't judge, video editing is hard!

Long story long, in panic mode looking for any kind of help at all I discovered SnagIt has video editing capacities. I took a chance and tried to do the simple edit in SnagIt and VOILA! About 5 minutes later I had a perfectly edited video with the most embarrassing moment of my life edited out.

Many thanks to the SnagIt team for saving my sanity and dignity! I have always loved the software but now I’m a loyal customer for life!

I know that feeling Josh! I am glad that you solved the problem but, how did you do it and was it in the latest version of Snagit (2019)

Hi Ronnie. Yes, I have the most recent version. Open the video using Snagit Editor. As soon as you open the video you'll notice a slider at the bottom that has a green box on one side and red on the other. You can move those around on the timeline to either trim off the beginning or end of a video or just cut out something in the middle like I did. Once you get those situated where you want them there's a  menu that opens right above them. Click "cut" and that's it!
