SnagIt share to OneNote 2016

Hi,

My employer has upgraded to Office 2016.  However, SnagIt doesn't support sharing with OneNote 2016--the latest version it supports is OneNote 2010. I no longer can seamlessly move my clippings from SnagIt to OneNote.  Can you please update the Output to OneNote to support OneNote 2016?  ...thanks!

What version of SnagIt are you using?

Have you tried to share to one note?

I just installed the share to One Note accessory and I can share to One Note 2016 using SnagtIt 12 and 13.

I'm just demonstrating that it works in SnagIt 12 and 13 for mking. ,

I don't know how responding with "Ouch" fits into the conversation.

I'm using SnagIt 13.  I found the OneNote 2013 Output, so I deleted the 2010 Output.  I was able to get the OneNote 2013 Output to work once, when I told it to "Insert [the clip] into Quick Notes."  The other options don't work, giving the error shown in the image, which I now get even for the function that worked before.

I consulted Support, and the response was to post here as an enhancement suggestion.

Odd, so I wonder why I can do it?

I don't use OneNote much it just came with Office.
I just tested the output again. I had no problem sending another image to OneNote.

I running SnagIt 13.0.1 ( Build 6326 )

I'm also using Windows 10

Maybe it's a Windows 7 issue?

I restarted my computer to see if anything would change. I still have no problem sending images to OneNote

From where I stand it should work for you as well.
Tech support personal are pretty sharp but I don't understand why it won't work for you.
After all, it's a Microsoft program running on Microsoft operating systems in both cases. They still update Windows 7 so it should be current with Office updates as well.

I would try running this by tech support again and tell them about my success with sharing images.

Something just doesn't add up here. Considering the fact that you sent one capture yourself before the issue arose.

Good Luck, I'd like to here back from you with any further updates on this.

I did as Support directed.  Let's see if the developers follow-through.

I still say if the output worked once, it should work thousands of times just as easily.

Hi there!

There are a few forces at play here, which can lead to some confusion. First and foremost, OneNote 2016 is not officially supported; it may work, it may not. Until (if) we release an updated OneNote 2016 output then sending to OneNote is going to be hit/miss. As you can see, some users are able to send to OneNote, others are note.

An important distinction is that you went from the standalone desktop application of Office to the cloud-based Office365. These are two fundamentally different technologies and outside of the lack of official support for OneNote 2016, the likely crux to this issue. Since you are working with a version of OneNote that is doubly problematic for Snagit, the recommendation I have would be to copy your content in the Snagit Editor and then simply paste the content in your OneNote doc.

Hi mking and others in this conversation.
I have one clue for you to resolve this: it could be that SnagIt didn't properly register the OneNote destination for your clips. This happened to me before and resulted in the same error message that you posted.

To resolve this, open the Snagit 13 Editor program, then open the Share menu and look for the OneNote 2013 Accessory. Open its submenu and look for Options. Now, deliberately set the output to another option than the one that is currently set and click OK. Try creating a new screen clip that outputs to OneNote. If that works, restore your original setting. Let me know if this works.

One other reason that the OneNote accessory possibly may not work well is if you are using the 64-bit version of the Office Suite. Some add-ins just behave better if you install the 32-bit version of Office.

Here's a consolidated reply to provide an update and address earlier comments/replies.

While I'm using OneNote 2016, I'm using the desktop application, not the web browser-based application.  The files are in the cloud, but they're mapped through OneDrive, and should appear to everything else on my computer as being in my \Users\<name>\Documents\OneDrive folder; e.g., to anything else on the computer, they should appear as local files (just like Word, Excel, etc.).

I'm using 32-bit Office, including OneNote.  I do have the 64-bit OS, but both Office and SnagIt are the 32-bit versions.

One of the first things I tried was using different output options, but changing that did not seem to make any difference--I still got the error popup I posted on 7 July at 22:46 UTC.

However, possibly some good news...

I was curious why the OneNote Output is having issues, when I haven't had problems with the other Office outputs (which don't seem to be version specific).  So, I snagged a portion of the screen and sent it successfully to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Each one acted exactly as I expected, proving that those Outputs are just fine.

Then I tried sending to OneNote, and voila!  Now it is working as expected.  I was able to send using the various output options, even "Insert into Existing Page," where I received a pop-up that let me choose exactly where to send the clip.  Here's the result:

I'll continue playing with this, but maybe this information will make it easier for TechSmith to update the Output.

Thanks mking, your fix worked for me. I had been getting an error from SnagIt when I tried to use the OneNote 2013 accessory saying that the image could not be inserted at the cursor. After following your instructions, it works again. (I'm using the OneNote 2016 Windows 10 App, by the way).

Oops. I spoke too soon. You fix worked ONCE. Now I'm getting the error again: "Error Inserting an Image. The OneNote 2013 accessory could not insert at cursor. There is no page selected."

OK, now it's working again. I'm going to try not to breathe on it or make any sudden moves. :)

It is not working for me. I tried all suggested options. Simple, I will not use it. One note built in option is not perfect but I do need to spend time in analyzing why it is not working.

Can I assume this is still not resolved? I'm using Snagit 2018 and OneNote 2016 but can't get the outputs to post in OneNote without error. Has there been any updates recently where this now works?

I was reset OneNote back to the previous version that worked? I am trying it and start all programmes but a system cannot find a previous version and there is error can occur in it. How do I solve with its steps? I was found some MS One Note Support person to get genuine service to sort all my issue about One Note. Please help me to fix this issue.
