SnagIt step tool font and outline suggestion

I am an instructional designer. I've been using SnagIt since 1990, the first year it was available (think the license was $10 or $15) and love it!  My job would be so much harder without this fabulous tool.  I also love all the enhancements over the years.  The only tool that hasn't lived up to my expectations is the one I most need, the step tool.

Prior to this tool I used the circle number stamps when creating instructions and job aids for various applications.  The problem is...if the stamps need to be resized, each one must be resized individually, and it is difficult and tedious trying to get them all the same size.  So I was thrilled when the step tool came out.

The step tool makes it quick and easy to created sequentially number shapes of the exact same size.  Love it!  Unfortunately, there are two features missing from this tool, which has me back to using the stamps instead.

The first is the ability to change the font in the step tool, or at least make it bold.  Compare the fonts in the stamps versus the step tool.  The font in the stamps is bold and much easier to read, especially if you need to make them small.  The step tool font is too thin and fuzzy, particularly on printed documents, when they are made fairly small.  Please address this and add an option to make the font bold!!!  And perhaps give a few other font style options???

The second is the inability to add a border around a step.  On some screen shots, the step graphic is hard to see, regardless of what color you use.  It doesn't pop.  Two years ago, this issue was raised.  I thought by now, Techsmith would have addressed this.  A "work around" was suggested for creating your own custom stamp.  How is that a "solution" when the stamps already exist???  I want the step tool to have the option of adding a border of different colors and thicknesses, the same way the shapes do, so I can ensure they stand out against any background and take advantage of the auto numbering and same sizing benefits the step tool offers.  Please add a border feature to the step tool.

Hi Rick, some of the screens in the applications we use are very busy and colorful.  Due to confidentiality, I cannot show you an actual sample.

Instead I grabbed a somewhat busy image from the internet and added a stamp and a step to show the contrast when resized down.  I often remove the shadow when I use the stamps, so have removed the shadow from both in the image below.  When you view this online, reduce your zoom to 50% (or lower) to emulate a size that would be comparable to an image on a printed job aid...

Ooops clicked submit too soon...
To continue, I've reduced the size of the second (and third) image and to reflect a more realistic size in one of my job aids, and you'll notice the font is thicker and easier to see in the stamp on the left.

Also the slight outline around the stamp helps it to stand out a bit more.

Appreciate the replies. Note that I'm not really affiliated with TechSmith other than just being a fan.

But in cases like these, I find it's immensely more helpful to have an image that perfectly depicts what you hope to achieve than to simply describe it. A case in point is what I understood you to mean with your outlining bit!

Hope your day is awesome... Rick :)

Rick, I appreciate your reply...and I agree. Also, thank you for the prompt to add images. :)

My hope is if/when someone from Techsmith looks at this post and the images, they'll better understand the need and the request.

Have a wonderful day!
