Created a 10 minute video on a Windows machine in  Snagit 2019.1.0.2653, saved it, and copied it to another Windows machine.

Opened the video on the new machine in  Snagit 2019.1.3.3847 and trimmed 3 minutes from it. Then saved.

The file size for the original 10 minute video is 34,494 KB
The file size for the trimmed 7 minute video is 35,876 KB

Why is the shorter file larger in size, and is there a way to reduce it?

Wasn't there a discussion about a similar issue a few weeks ago?

How did you trim the 3 minutes?  If you use a program that doesn't alter content, other than a chop, you get 70% of the file size.  I use a program called "EasiestSoft Movie Editor 5.1.0" If I split (or cut) a video at point X, it creates two videos totaling about 4K larger than the original one piece (a second header needs to be added to part 2).
However if I crop, rotate or otherwise add effects to a video, you can only guess it's final size.

I used SnagIt. I added nothing, only trimmed out content.

I suggest you don't do this with the other machine. Just use the same one you created the video with originally.
I don't know why it happened? It probably shouldn't be happening. I ran a test on my computer.
I rendered a video. Then imported it and shortened it by around 30% using SnagIt, the file size shrunk in size by around 30%.

Joe - did you remove the 30% from the front, middle or rear?

Mike - are these MP4 files? If so, I think running both thru HandBrake's trans-coding might prove interesting? ("Trans-coding" from MP4 to MP4 is OK).
