snagit video masking

I record videos to explain how to do things for others and I would like to be able to mask sensitive information (i.p. addresses, passwords, etc.). This is not for a business but is for open source projects. I love SnagIt as it works well but I don't see this capability and I really don't need (or can afford) Camtasia).

All I need is the ability to create a blur or rectangle block to obscure the information for the frames in which it is displayed.

thank you

I do the same thing,. The process I follow is to take screenshots, blur the areas using the blur tool, and then record the video using the new record video feature. It works great and it is simple to to use as you can add pointers and arrows while talking about the materia. Once provided, you could upload to video editor and do the zoom features. If you are taking about full video , Maybe someone that uses Camtasia can help you.

I like that and will have to try it - would be nice to be able to just do a recording and then edit the video with the blur and perhaps lines, arrows, etc.

Situations such as yours have to be very ticklish for TechSmith. I'm sure TechSmith agonizes over how much functionality to offer via SnagIt alone VS Camtasia.

As I personally see it, TechSmith would have zero incentive to do anything at all with video when it comes to SnagIt. I mean, if I were in their position I'd be thinking long and hard about doing anything with video. Because the more features are added to SnagIt, the less desirable Camtasia would become.

Then there's the question of just blending the two products. Suddenly, the existing SnagIt users would howl as the price dramatically increased to accommodate the feature set.

Just some random thoughts from the edge.

Cheers... Rick :)

Hello there lbdyck
There are literally dozens of free applications that can edit SnagIt videos and enhance them.

You may want to look into some of them? https://www.oberlo.com/blog/best-free-video-editing-software
