Also, your description of the problem is a little vague, but from the subject line it may be the following.

I have an irritating little situation with 2018 where even if the "Preview In Editor" option is checked, the editor will not launch after a capture. The capture appears to happen but it doesn't go anywhere. Manually launching the editor before doing a capture makes it perform correctly.

Make sure that the editor is running before you capture, and see whether that fixes it. (Also try Jasons reboot suggestion.)
