I have been using snagit 11. I got a new computer and would like to transfer the snagit files to new computer. I can not find the Library file or images on my computer. Is there a way to transfer the images or save to back up drive? Thanks

You want to go into the SnagIt editor.Click on "File" Preferences  and then Library "I believe" I haven't used version 11 in a long time but you want the Library Tab.
You will find an option to Backup and Restore files. Click on that and create a backup. Transfer that backup file to the new computer, flash drive, whatever.
Then navigate to the same location in the editor and chose restore files. Import the backup and that's it.

Here's something else you can do if needed.
If you want to transfer any custom profiles to the new computer.Go into the preset manager and click "File"
Then, export all pre-sets .
Open pre-set manager on the new computer chose file and import pre-sets.

Regards,Joe

Plus, on the file transfers I referred to above.
Images that you have saved from the SnagIt editor to different locations on your computer and are no longer accessible in the library. Will need to be found and moved manually.

Theres a guy named Manny that posts here often. He knows this subject better than I.Perhaps he or someone else will offer some advice soon?

Do a File "Save As" and see where they are being saved. Go to that folder and copy to a thumb drive or external drive and save on the new computer.

The Backup-and-Restore option can be found under the Editor Options dialog (bring up from the button under the File menu). Go to the Advanced section, there is a backup/restore button in there.

To add to this post, the Editor Options... button in v11 is grey on grey so initially, I missed it.

Everything has pretty much been explained on how to transfer your automatically saved files to a new computer but here is a detailed article: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203731768-Snagit-Windows-I-need-to-move-my-unsaved-c...

Here is one about transferring your quick styles: https://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-13-transfer-styles.html  Note that at the bottom there are styles from previous versions that you can bring back should you so desire.

The only comment I might add is that this process overwrites anything that you might have already captured and saved automatically in your new computer.  So you might want to save anything you want to keep in your new computer first and then bring that back not using this process.  This process will destroy anything in the library of your new computer and replace it with the content of your old one.

Additionally, the above applies to captures that Snagit saved automatically in the datastore only.  Anything else you might have saved away from the datastore that will have to be moved manually to your new computer just as you would any other file using your method of file storage.

Good luck.

I backed up to E Drive from old computer and when I went to add them to new computer, it said it will replace the current library so I would loose what I have already on the new computer. Is there a way to blend the old and new or to access the images I saved to E Drive? Thanks so much for the info. I have 1340 images in library on old computer.

No, there is not a method that combines the two and still makes it show up in the Snagit library.

You can manually add files, as you would to any other folder, but Snagit will only recognize it when you open that file directly.  You have to decide what's more important to you for those automatically saved files in the library - the old captures or the new ones.   Presumably you don't have that much in the new computer and you could just move them manually to a new folder outside the datastore and then point Snagit there to open them.  There's just no good method to export old files and blend them to your new computer in a nice neat way.
