When I select the resize option in Snagit 10, the default settings that open in the window is "Scale to Specific Size (pixels)" Width 320 pixels and Height 200 pixels. I never selected this as a default. I would like my capture to be 100%.

I have tried to research this everywhere, and I do not know how to get back to this setting. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but it still defaults to 320X200 as a default setting. There are too many steps to get to the 100%, then reduce it to a different size, such as 85%. Please help me!!

Hi Susan,

Thanks for the question and all of the detailed information. You are correct, the "Scale by percentage" button should always be selected by default when you open this window in Snagit 10. The team has tried to reproduce the scenario you are describing and we haven't had any luck.

For the question about getting your image to 85%, if you do select the "Scale by percentage" button and enter 85 in the width and height fields, that should resize your image since it is coming in at 100%.

One other thing to check is which version of Snagit 10 you are running. Here is a quick video showing how to find your version: http://screencast.com/t/xIUMSRuhwFg
If you are on version 10.0.2, great! If not, it would be helpful to upgrade (for free) to the latest version to ensure there is not a problem there. You can download the latest version here: http://download.techsmith.com/snagit/... .

Let me know if this helps out, and if not, we can get you in touch with one of our technical support specialists.

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks for the quick response, but unfortunately it doesn't help. I have version 10.0.2 but the same thing happens. It distorts the image, as you can see, when I click the resize image. I know how to get to the "85%" as you describe - that is not my issue. My issue is that I first have to check the "Keep Aspect Ratio" box, then select "Scale by percentage", and then type in my %. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is very annoying. I don't know how this got changed, and I can't seem to get the default back to "Scale by percentage".

Hi Susan,

Thanks for looking up that information for us. You are right, there seems to be something going awry with the way that window's properties are being remembered.

Oh, no, I completely understand how annoying and frustrating that could be, especially when you have to do the same steps over and over again.

I'd like to put you in touch with one of our technical support specialists. You can open a support ticket here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/ask

They will be able to work with you on this and hopefully come to a quicker resolution.

Again, we certainly apologize for this bug with Snagit, thanks for your patience with it.

I agree with Susan. I am having the same issue and when working on a tight deadline, it gets cumbersome to have to go through extra steps each time for each screen capture. Please provide an update when the issue has been resolved.

I have version 10.0.1 (Build 58) and my default setting for resize is now going to the Scale to specific size (pixels) of 320 x 200 pixels.

How do I get it back to a default of Scale by percentage??

Jay, I can't figure out how to replicate this, and as far as I know, it shouldn't be remembering to scale to a specific size.

Do you by chance have any profiles you made that resize an image automatically? I am just grasping trying to think how that radio button could be stuck on the pixels option.

I think you might want to open a case with our support team. They will have some better ideas.

You can open the case here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/uti...

Mike Curtis

Hi all. This is Susan - the one who originally had the problem. I have the solution for all of you experiencing the 320x320 issue. Just make sure you have the latest version of Snagit which is 10.0.2. Here is what my tech sent to me, and it worked - (I added an x to the file name instead of deleting it) . . .

Hi Susan,

Thank you for contacting TechSmith!
Can I have you try the following method of correcting this 'default' settings issue:

Let's try resetting your registry to see if that helps. Since all profiles will be deleted, right-click and export any custom profiles you will not want erased so you can import them again afterward:

I would like you to do the following.

-make sure SnagIt32.exe (and in version 9/10/11, also that the SnagIt editor in Task Manager) is not running
-click start-->run (or the windows + R in Vista) and type regedit
-browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt and delete the "SnagIt" folder.
