I'm currently testing SnagIt 11.2.1 on Windows 8.1 RTM (I am a MSDN subscriber.) When I have a second monitor attached, half the screen is blanked out. I'm testing this on a Microsoft Surface Pro.

So I take it no one has an answer or suggestion, even from Techsmith?

I've got this problem too.  I've completely uninstalled and deleted Snagit, then reinstalled.  Still same problem.  It looks like what is happening is that it is picking up some resolution settings from monitor 1 and applying that to monitor 2 when the second monitor is plugged in.  If I disconnect the second monitor then the screen capture works ok on monitor 1.

After further testing, it appears to be an issue with the Desktop scaling capability in Windows.  I can repro this issue with 8 or 8.1, and when the "Let me choose one scaling level for all my desktops" is UNCHECKED.  When checked, the issue reported does not happen.  But that screws up scaling when the dimensions of the screens are different (not resolution, but actual size of the monitors.)

I've also done some testing and it does seem to be related to scaling or screen resolution.  This was uncovered with some exploration by TechSmith tech support.  I go into Windows Control Panel > Display and set the scaling options to "smaller" (Win8.1), which actually sets it to 100%.  Once I did that I'm able to capture either screen and I don't have to have scaling level checked.
