I received the email today to upgrade from Snagit 11 to 11.2. I installed it and the installation appears to be fine but snagit editor does not run at all and when i take a print screen the image disappears into cyberspace instead of neatly popping up in Snagit Editor. How can i uninstall and go back to one that worked?

I received an email today to install Snag it 11.2. I downloaded the upgrade, but now when I try to save an image with the Snagit Editor, the application immediately closes.

New Snagit Editor v11.2 is not launched in windows xp. Instead, Dr.watson is launched and 7C9400C8 (ntdll!RtlAllocateHeap) c0000005 exception error in event log viewer. Tools > Convert Images... menu is not launched too. v11.1 don't have this problem. Please fix this bug.

I installed SnagIt build 11.2.0 today and the image capture isn't working correctly. I have it setup to go to clipboard and preview in editor. Nothing shows up in the editor and nothing is saved to the clipboard. Help, I'm a bit lost without SnagIt!

I just upgraded from 11.1 and now it crashes every time I attempt to perform a capture. In Editor (which I have to select to run) it crashes on menu item selection.

11.1 was very stable and reliable. Didn't you guys test this release???

Same here. I have been using snagit for many years, but this last update I guess was released before it was finished. The editor does not work.

Same here. No doubt like most others I need this to meet a documentation deadline. What are our options? Any estimated time for resolution?

My solution was to uninstall 11.2 and reinstall 11.1 -- which is again working perfectly, as always. I'll hold off trying 11.2 again until I see Techsmith has addressed this problem.

Hello TechSmith !

Same Problem for me: After installing SnagIt 11.2.0.101,
SnagIt then captures as usual ; thereafter however complete Editor Fail...

i.e. absolutely nothing more happens, also by "stand-alone" opening the Editor... Nothing happens at all, not even an error message.

Is Ver. 11.2.0.101 a Beta version ??

Everybody seems to be having the same problem today on the very first day of the release.

My System : Windows XP64 Professional.

I am a satisfied Snagit customer for 8 years now since 2005-03-13, starting back then with SnagIt 7.

Every version I've had up until now in the last 8 years has run flawlessly - right on from the installation until the next update/upgrade.

How long do you think it will take to get this bug fixed ???

Best Regards,

Dr. X-Ray Bob Cleaveland

Did you REBOOT between the uninstall of 11.2 and install of 11.1? I have installed 11.2 and gone back to 11.1 three times now (testing 11.2 with various drivers). Every time, going back to 11.1 fixed the problem. But I did reboot between the uninstall and re-install.

Make a backup of your profiles.

Uninstall in the usual way

Then delete all 'Techsmith' folders on C-drive

Registry: delete following entries
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TechSmith
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith

or with x64
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TechSmith

Reboot.

Re-install v.11.1x (think latest version was 11.1.0.248)
This worked with me.

Good luck.

Same problem here, editor does not open.
Will re-install v.11 - Hopefully my uninstaller can get rid of all 11.2 traces.

This last Snag-it update is very bad. The new "one-click" works only once, and then it freezes. The Excel bug I wrote to you about last year is not fixed. I have to go back to the previous version if I can. It's so disappointing.

I'm using Vista!

Editor crashes when I try to manage tags or folder or use traditional print screen. The previous version does not do this. Unfortunately I lost all of my stored captures when I uninstalled and re-installed... (3 years worth) I'm not a happy camper!! I see you are having this problem with other win 7 users. Sounds like this is a problem. I will reinstall the old version till you get this fixed. Unfortunately it doesn't resolve loosing the previously stored captures...

@bill - this definitely is a drama for you!
Is there nothing you can do to restore the files?
Undelete, whatever?
Personally, I am storing my output in a different folder on a different partition.

Suggest to my earlier reply when when re-installing 11.1.
This worked well with me.

Hi Snagit fans,

We're hearing from a number of customers experiencing these symptoms and are working to track down the root cause and get it fixed. The sole focus of our Snagit team right now is trying to get a handle on what's causing the issue so we can resolve it as quickly as possible. So sorry for the disruption and lost productivity this is causing you. We'll post updates here as we have news to share.

Hi Snagit-people,

I'm a big fan, but you created a very bad mood for me with your new update 11.2 ... grrrrr ... I had to restore my system in the end and roll it back to yesterday in order to get my snagit editor back ... so not a good idea that update. Cost me too much time

for all with the same problem AND using Win7 ... luckily SnagIt-Installer created a 'restore point' ... so it was fairly easy to go back and restore my system to the situation with Snagit 11.1 ... check it out on your own system.

Hi Karen, I didn't un-install, just let the update do 'it's Magic' , and therefore could use the restore point, created in the beginning of that process, to go one step back, 11.1 works fine again, including the editor

The patched version linked in previous post (now removed) DOES solve the problem for me. (snagiteditor.exe, 11.2.0.0, 3/20/2013 2:21PM)

The code is not signed, so obviously not ready for production -- but it DOES solve the problem. With this version overlayed on the 11.2 install, SnagitEditor launches normally.

Hopefully it can be signed and released to everyone soon.

Thanks!
