SnagIt 11 Editor ALWAYS CRASH

I'm a long time user of SnagIt and downloaded the trial of version 11 to see if it was worth upgrading. Apparently, IT IS NOT. I'm on Windows 7 (32bit) and I'm current on all my updates. But, upon capturing, the Snagit Editor opens, hangs a bit on the tutorial pictures before I can select the capture I just did. However, upon selecting the destination to save the file, I get a message that Snagit Editor has stopped working. I exit out of Snagit and restart. Try my capture again and since then, Snagit Editor just crashes without me even being able to get to my capture. I uninstalled and reinstalled SnagIt. I then unchecked the Preview in Editor option and tried again but Editor still crashed right away. The second time made things worst. When Editor crashes, it takes Snagit along with it. So, now BOTH the Editor and Snagit crashes. It's been 30 minutes since I first downloaded and installed version 11 and I've taken all of one screen capture, albeit unsuccessfully. I have since uninstalled Snagit.

What is going on?? Why does Editor keep crashing?

Installed the fix, did not help at all. Same problem Editor crashes within 2-3 screen captures or even if I am just working in editor and not even trying to capture a screen. Running Windows 8, 64 Bit. After all these years using SnagIt I guess I will have to research another screen capture program that is more stable. Sorry to leave SnagIt, I did enjoy using it when it was stable.

What seemed to fix it for me in the end was uninstalling some printer drivers that I didn't need any longer, and I think the culprit was a pdf screen print driver although can't say for certain...

I use SnagIt every day. Numerous times a day the SnagIt Editor will freeze/lock up...I close SnagIt, go to Task Manager (I'm still on XP), close the SnagitEditor.exe process, go into iolo's System Mechanic Professional app, run the Memory Mechanic tool to defrag my memory, and then restart SnagIt and the SnagIt Editor. SnagIt will run fine for anywhere from seconds to hours, but will eventually crash again.

Here's a typical error message I get when it crashes:

"Encountered an improper argument."

FOUND A FIX!
Are you running F.lux (flux) - the screen dimming app!?!? I had editor crashing on me constantly, couldnt make it run more than a few seconds. Shut down Flux and bingo, no issues at all!!!

I suspect both programs do something with the gdiplus.dll which conflicts in some way. Hope this solves the mystery for those of you still having issues.

Cheers,
Greg (Windows XP)

Why should you have to reinstall another version when you have paid for the "latest" version and expect it to work? Techsmith had a great product and should be working flat out to get this resolved for their long time customers.

I work for a large Pharma Company that have paid for licences for this programme. We use it often in our daily work. A solution needs to be found asap - you had a great product now get it sorted before someone comes up with a better product!

Agreed, shame on TechSmith. I removed 11 and re-installed 10. TechSmith should refund the upgrade until they can sell a stable product.

To Techsmith support...if you have not already done so, use MS Adplus tool to produce a dump of a Snagit 11 crash.

You are aware of this problem reported by some many folks, correct? I cant believe that you would alienate all of us including those paying corporate customers.

At least, respond in some way to all of us, that something is being investigated, worked on, a fix is imminent, etc!

Desktop support for a very large multinational (5000+ licenses for SnagIt 11). We upgraded to Windows 7 and have had nothing but trouble with SnagIt 11 ever since. Just installed SnagIt 11.2.0.101 on 3 new laptops and 3 exisiting users laptops that were having the "SnagIt Editor has stopped working" problem...........took just 4 days for the first of the 3 new laptop users to report the same problem, took 20 seconds for it to hap[pen again on the existing users laptops. So looks like Techsmith can wave goodbye to 5000+ licenses and wait for the litigation.

Go Dave N! Techsmith has been ignoring everyone about this problem for more than a year, yet they have no problem taking our money. It's about time someone with real strength takes them to task for this problem. Cheers.

I'm running MAC OS X 10.8 and Snagit 2.1.7.  Editor suddenly refuses to load.  I can't even get Snagit tool bar options open. Screen just blips but nothing happens.   Just starting a BIG documentation project.  How to fix?  Can I reinstall Snagit?

suspect problem related to ADOBE PDF virtual printer. I've experienced this several times, and the fix has been to UNINSTALL/REINSTALL. This week it happened again, and I noticed that SNAGIT was not set as my default printer. When i changed it from ADOBE PDF back to SNAGIT, the editor immediately worked fine. I've tested it and it works fine with other printer drivers, but does not like ADOBE PDF. Things that make you go hmmm.

So the solution was found today, I called the customer support and right now their only solution is to uninstall Quicktime from your computer. They have yet to find out why...but it worked for me!

I can confirm this worked for me. It made Snagit startup much faster too. I have 11.3.0 on Win XP.

Snagit is a great product but the lockups are NOT great. I don't have QuickTime installed and version 11.3 locks up my PC all the time. Strong suggestion is to fix the issue or a complaint to the BBB and Attorney State Generals office of the State that TechSmith does business in will be filed. This is unethical and for a business to purchase this product and be ignored is outrageous. When are you going to acknowledge this issue? Look at all these complaints!
