The tag bar (icons) appears on the right side of my screen in SnagIt 11. How do I close or get rid of it?

I think you are referring to the search pane on the right side of the screen? I not please let me know. There are a couple of options for that area. You can collapse or expand the search pane using the arrow on the left hand side of the search pane. You can also do this by checking or unchecking the search pane box in the View tab.

If this does not suit your needs you can also dock and undock the search pane by double clicking in the very top of the window

I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or this did not answer your question please let us know.

Thank you,

Erika

Yes, I am talking about what appears to be the "Search Panel". I can expand the pane without difficulty. However neither the collapse feature or uncheck suggestion allow me to get rid of the bar. It collapses down to a vertical row of icons.

How do I close it / get rid of it entirely?

You can't. It's behaving as designed.

Then that's a terrible design.

TS staff, can you add this as a feature request?

All other programs I use allow me to collapse panels like this. I find the panel distracting.

For me, the whole tagging system is completely useless. Why would you force something like this on us?

Elvis,

First of all, can you tell us where you're posting from? People have been looking for you and Tupac Shakur and a few others for ages.

Second, I'm sorry to hear the panel is bothering you - is there anything in particular it's hindering you with? We can definitely take your feedback into consideration for the future as you requested, but any additional information would be great.

Thanks and hope to hear from you!

Larry

I'll give you my feedback as I don't particularly like seeing a column of flags on the right side of the editor either. It takes away from the square footage available and doesn't particularly add much in forcing me seeing those flags constantly.

I would much rather the panel collapse to a single line and be editable like the one click line where you can select the color and many other things. If you code the search pane collapse the same way it would be just dandy!

Posting from Graceland of course :)

Not sure what additional information is required other than:

1) I never ever use the tag feature
2) It takes up screen real estate and I find it distracting

Nearly every other program I've seen allows you to close non-critical toolbars and I'd love to see this in SnagIt!

Thanks for the feedback, both Manny and the King!

I will pass this thread along to interested parties in order to make sure it gets considered for future enhancements in Snagit!

I agree!! I hate the "Search Pane". I never use it. Every single time I open Snag It, I have to make the window as small as I can and then drag it as far off the screen as I can. I use Snag It ALOT in my profession and it is extremely frustrating to have to waste time messing with the search pane everytime I open the program via capturing an image or strait opening it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get rid of this feature.

You shouldn't have to deal with the search pane every time you open the editor. Once you close it then it should stay that way. I actually like the search pane. What I don't like is that it takes up more space than needed when closed.

Yes, shouldn't be there ever unless I want it. Very frustrating (like not being able to set DPI of Capture as User default). Thanks.

I agree. I find the search pane extremely irritating. Why can't it be closed instead of just collapsed? It is a waste of screen real estate as others have mentioned. I should be doing work righ now, but this was bothering me enough to search the Internet for a fix. Unfortunately it does not appear to exist. Please address this annoyance as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Loyal SnagIt user

Are you listening, SnagIt? Most everyone HATES the Search Pane. I also have to drag it out of my way every single time I open SnagIt. How user unfriendly is that? Users should be able to banish any stupid floating pane like that has little if any use.

Please get rid of the Search Pane!!!!

I HATE the search pane as well. Hate it very much and even when collapsed it takes up space on my screen, and this is in the image editor after all. Why would you just assume a user wants this stupid thing, along with the open tray thumbnail pane (which I can't even collapse), open ALL the time? (Rhetorical question, I'm not interested in the reasoning behind this (if there is any), only that it changes.)

I also despise the search pane. It is a waste of space, and I do not use it. Please allow us to close it. I currently just open it in its own window thne throw it to the bottom-right corner of the screen. Not a very elegant approach at all.
