New option pop-up and WSUS Console issue:

The new pop-up that allows you to choose a capture or video capture after selecting what to capture is highly annoying and less productive. It adds another unnecessary click. I can understand the thought of this addition but I just don't see a need to ask which every time. If I wanted a video in 11 I just switched it to video capture first.

Also in the WSUS administration console the capture scroll no longer works at all. In Snagit 11 it worked poorly. You had to hover the mouse in just the right spot to get the scroll capture button to appear and then use my touch screen to hit the button. Moving the mouse would make the button disappear hence the need for a touch screen.
In Snagit 12 I can no longer use this work around as the scroll capture button simply doesn't appear.

I agree.  I am quite disappointed with the new screen capture interface.

I have resolved my issue by unbinding the print screen button from the global capture option and rebinding it to the Image capture.

I tried that, but you are still prompted to choose which flavor of capture.  Makes very little sense.

Once I unmapped the print screen button from the global capture option, I was able to set the hotkey button on the Image profile to the print screen button.  Once I did that, I am no longer prompted to select a capture mode.  I suspect that your print screen button is still mapped to the global capture.

The following are the steps I performed to remap my "Print Screen" button.

  1. Right click the snag-it icon in the system tray and select "preferences...".
  2. Click on the "Hotkeys" tab.
  3. Change the first entry, "Global capture", to "None".
  4. Click on "OK" to close the Preferences window.
  5. Right-click the snag-it icon in the system tray and select "Profiles->Manage Profiles".
  6. Click on the "Image" entry immediately under the first section entitled "Capture Profiles".
  7. In the bottom portion of the window where it says "Edit Image Profile Settings" click on the "Hotkey" button.
  8. In the drop-down select "Print Screen" which for me is the first entry.
  9. Click on "OK".
  10. Close the Manage Profiles window.

After I performed this procedure, I am no longer prompted to select the type of capture.

Ahhh much better, this worked. I also needed to click "Editor" as well to make the image open in the editor. Otherwise nothing happened after snagging.

Old habits die hard.  This does take care of the problem "For The PrintScreen" button.  But if you tend to grab the Red Dot, It isn't helpful.

I am so surprised that you cannot specify a specific profile to map to the Red Dot.  I don't think that TechSmith did a very good job of changing the UI.  It feels like they just changed it so they could say it is a "new" version and charge people more money.

The scrolling capture works for me like it did in the previous version.   Make sure that the selection setting of the profile you mapped to "Print Screen" is set to "All-In-One".

Okay, seems the issue with the "Red Button" is laced throughout the forum.  However, to be brutally honest, what purpose does it serve?  At least for seasoned SnagIt users.  Looking back to version 11, you could at least set it to be EITHER Image Capture OR Video Capture. The new "Metro" dropdown is far from useful IMHO.

Same here. I have tons of profiles which are supposed to be working 'silent' and not come up with that stupid popup. It is great for a general setup and I understand that for normal users, but if this is not possible to switch off, I will revert back to the last 11 version. Additional with the other things (I am usually a very happy snagit user), I am downloading the 11 version right now to have it.
