Snagit 12 - black UI - is there any way to change that?  Black screens are very user UNfriendly. I would at least expect an option.

I hope "few" doesn't turn into "many."  Thanks for the info!

I have to agree with not liking the dark interface. I think it's based on Adobe products going dark though (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc) which I personally hate (but they let you change it's color at least). So this is good news to hear Techsmith is changing it. Updates like this shouldn't take months though. That's actually pretty sad it has to take that long for a force fed UI update we never wanted in the first place.

I had to go back to version 11 for now, the dark brown/blackish interface with the dark gray icons is really hard for me to use. The graphics or text look fuzzy and give me a headache. V-11 has a much more readable gray palette area and a nice light gray ribbon with black graphics and text. It looks so much cleaner and less blurry. Not sure what the reasoning was behind that one. Choices are always better, give the user the ability to change to the palette that works best for them! The text capture is also still useable in V11 (don't get me started).

If I have the 12 license, can I go back to 11?

Kelly,

In the next few days we will be releasing a new version of Snagit that will allow you to change the canvas color behind your image. In the release immediately following that, we will be introducing a liter colored theme. The team is already working on this and just working through some final kinks. For now you can download a previous version of Snagit here: http://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions.asp and your key will be backwards compatible and work for those earlier versions as well and then allow you to update when the liter version comes out.

Thanks,
Sarah

PS:  Just so everyone knows --- I LOOOOOVE Snagit.  I've used it for years and rave about it to everyone.  I knew you'd fix it for me.  :-)

I also LOVE SnagIt but am sooooo not lovin' this black UI, especially on the toolbar. I use dark red image shapes to callout new interface features. I have my image shapes saved to my Quick Styles. My dark red images are not showing up against the black background.

Even your own black filled shape in your Tools > Common Shapes menu is difficult to see against the dark UI. I'm surprised this passed design usability. :-(

This is Snagit's first upgrade that I haven't liked, and I've been using the product for years. I'm hoping you'll get this fix out quickly so I don't have to go back and reinstall Snagit 11. Thanks for listening.

Hey Everyone,

Great news! Snagit 12.2 went live this morning with a new, lighter theme you can toggle to.
Snagit should prompt you to update, but if not, go ahead and check for updates manually!

Here is a quick video showing you how to switch: http://screencast.com/t/01OjkGQFmnLl

Snagit isn't updating. In Snagit Editor, I go to File > Editor Options > Resources > and click Check for Updates. The updater tells me that I already have the most current version, but when I click on About Snagit, it shows that I'm still on version 12.1.0 (Build 1322) June 24 2014.

Hey Hope

I just updated mine to 12.2 2 minutes ago, but I did it through the Snagit Capture Check for Updates.

Nope. That just hangs. Sigh. Looks like I'll have to contact support.

Support had me go to the TechSmith site and manually update from there. Update was successful.
