I've created a new profile but i want it to be the default one. Couldn't find a way to set it.
It always revert to the stupid image/video capture then goes into the editor.
Any idea how i do it please, thanks.

Hi there

What you will need to do is assign your capture key to the profile you want to be "default". Then ignore the One Click doohickey and always use the Capture key.

Cheers... Rick :)

If a hotkey combination is already assigned that means you will have to either use a different combination or find and change the existing combination and change that.

Finally found it :)
It's the default capture in the preferences that uses it.

Thanks a lot both of you for your help :)

I'd just like to add that I also hate the new version 12's "the stupid image/video capture then goes into the editor.".  This is an extra step and is truly unnecessary and annoying.

The question is:  When we press [Print Screen] and select an All-In-One capture, SnagIt should go straight to the SnagIt Editor (i.e. Preview) , just like it was in versions 11, 10, 9 ,8, 7 etc.

Solution:  As sort of described from above:

1.  Go into Preferences | Hot Keys Tab |  Change "Global Capture" hot key to be anything except [Print Screen], such as Ctrl - [Print Screen]

2. Go into Profiles, Change the "Image" profile, Hot Key to be [Print Screen]

Thank you for this detail John.

The company I'm working for uses 12, so this is my first experience with the change from 11. Can't believe how stupidly unproductive I've been with my screen caps until seeing this resolution.

I appreciate the new method gives more choice, but (a) tell upgrading users about meaningful changes to default behaviours, and (b) find a way to surface this mysterious assignment in the Manage Profiles UI. (Maybe make "Global Capture" visible in the list of profiles.)

It should not require failing screen caps, UI searching, help file searching, then Google searching to find a Byzantine solution to a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place and was avoidable through either UI design or a "What's New?" layer.

I set my Global Capture hotkey to CTRL+PrintScreen and my Send to Clipboard (profile) hotkey to simply PrintScreen.  Now I'm happy.  Thank you to this thread and Google for finding it!

I just got started on a new laptop with a new version (12.x) of SnagIt.    There are extra steps added, even after (with the help of this thread) I figured out how to assign my profile to the Print Screen hotkey.   I can make it go directly to the clipboard, but only if I don't preview it.  If I specify that it is to go to the clipboard AND preview it, then I have to click a button to tell SnagIt to 'Finish Profile'.  Why does it not just finish the process unprompted.   My perception is that a clever program is cluttering function with inconvenience.   Am I doing something wrong?

But it doesn't really matter if you get to assign the the hot key to the profile you want.  I've tried and tech support told me you can't change what the big red button does.
