Snagit 12 Editor ad Capture Icons are identical

Snagit 12, Windows 7

I have pinned both the Editor and Capture to the task bar. They have identical icons, and therefore I'm not sure which one to click.

Any way to install separate icons for the two?

Hey there,

You should be able to yes. Here is how you do that:

1. Right-click the icon.
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the Change Icon buttom.
4. Select a different icon or browse to find a different ico file.
5. Click OK.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Continue to provide administrator permission.

Hope that helps!

Logan, this is a design flaw. The two programs were easily distinguished from one another in previous versions because the editor icon had a little paintbrush on it. This is very important detail for folks who have the shortcuts on their Taskbar and want/need to identify at a glance. Furthermore, there are no other SnagIt icons included with the program, so the only option is to change to something generic -- based on your suggested remedy.

Running as Administrator, right-clicking the Taskbar icons brings up menus that don't include "Properties."

If I select "Properties" from the context menu for the shortcut icon on the desktop, "Change Icons" is grayed out (possibly because there are no alternates included with the product?).

The 2 icons were easily distinguished in versions prior to v11.
I recall submitting negative feedback about the Capture and Editor icon changes in v11 -- the icons appear too similar, especially on a small display (the paintbrush is too subtle).

Snagit solution for v12: make the problem worse, not better.

Techsmith has truly lost its way -- they continue to degrade their flagship product and to disregard the needs and feedback of longtime, loyal, paid customers who actually use the program every day.

I will stay with v11 until my licenses expire, as I look for an alternative product (thankfully, there are now many from which to choose).

Sad, sad, sad.

With the exception of a lack of a scrolling capture, I was perfectly happy with Jing. I did buy Snagit to get its editing capability, but don't use it that much. Now that I have to both capture and edit with Snagit, it would seem logical that they would have different (but perhaps thematically similar) ways to invoke each: different icons.

Has anything changed in the last year on this?  It's a pain having the icons identical in the task tray.  Further, I don't see any way to get a new icon in the Properties panel for the desktop shortcuts.  Running Win 7 SP 1.
