When I enter SnagIt 12 Editor and go to the library and start scrolling to find files, it crashes. This also occurred in SnagIt 11 Editor and the problem still remains.  How can this be fixed?

Hello,

I would suspect there is some file in Snagit's library that is corrupted and Snagit isn't handling this in a nice way causing the crash.

You can contact our tech support here to get help with tracking this problem down further:
https://support.techsmith.com/home

The investigation would most likely involve creating some log files that would help diagnose what file Snagit was working on when the crash happened.

Thanks,

What a slip having bought versoin 12! Yet the installation always crashed till I started it as administrator. And now it's totally unusable. The printscreen image does not appear in the editor and going to the library crashes the program. What a disappointment!

Solved for WIN7 32bit client

Renamed folder from users local profile \\COMPUTERNAME\C$\USERS\USERNAME\APPDATA\LOCAL\TECHSMITH   to TECHSMITH.bak.

Then connected remotely to the computer registry (user must be logged on to PC)  and then removed entry at HKCU\Software\Techsmith.

User may need to log out and then logon again to then sucessfully open up SNAGIT Editor.

Caveat - If using roaming profiles you may need to perform the same edits on server profile.

This should work for 64bit WIN7

Pete, thanks for the feedback--I'm going to need help doing this, so I will consult with someone who is much more tech savvy than I am to perform the fix.

Awesome man, thank you. This did the trick for me as well. Win7 64bit. FWIW: I did not need to logout, just relaunched. It said it could not find data storage location, asked if I wanted to browse or use default. I hit default and it created a new c:\AppData\Local\TechSmith folder.

Hello!

One thing to note is that by doing this you will be unable to locate/see your existing captures in the Snagit Library. Rather than using the above steps I would recommend heading to the following support article to find the solution for this issue: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/203731918

Thanks!

I do seem to have left behind my old captures, BUT this procedure does work.  Win 7 64.

After a lot of trial and error, I found that deleting the contents of :

C:\Users\James\AppData\Local\TechSmith\Snagit\Accessories

solved the problem for me. I am running version 12.2 though -
