I have problems when software makes changes without my consent, such as installing a cookie and hard driver cleaner and the product installs a toolbar and other crap.
During the install of SnagIt 12, I was never asked if I wanted the software to set itself as the default printer. Last night, when I went to print something to paper, SnagIt was the selected printer. It happened several more times this morning.
Yes, I realize it takes seconds to select a different print in the stable of available printers and print drivers, such as Acrobat, etc. The issue, though, is this is my computer and my computer is my digital home. Any software I buy or opt to install in my home is a guest and must act as a guest by asking my permission, especially if it wishes to move things, trash stuff, or change things -- especially looks or how things work -- in my home.
I set up my home for my convenience and speed. Having to fiddle around and select a printer when attempting to PRINT to paper is not my method of working. Having to reset my default printer back to what it should be -- and was -- takes about a minute or so total time, but it is still time wasted from my life, as I have already spent time customizing my home. I hate having to repaint the walls when visitors leave simply because they started painting the walls a color they preferred.
Speaking of repainting the walls ... I really, truly do detest the new color scheme. TechSmith are you going out of your way in attempts to make me go blind?
Unhappy with new version of Snagit.
How do we combat Techsmiths self important delusions of grandeur. Installing snagit changes my workspace by forcing the one click window on, it changes my default printer. If you want to combat something, combat your own invasion of your customers space. I want to use your product, not have it take over my computer!!!

This shouldn't be happening (in fact, this is the first I've heard of it with this release). I promise you that we wouldn't do that, as much as we love Snagit around here... I don't think many of us would want it to be our default printer, either. I'm really sorry you two ran into this.
We've seen this bug before, but it seemed to have something to do with the network/printer the computer was connected to. At any rate, please get in touch with tech support if this happens again.
I'm on 12.3 and this regularly happens on Windows 7, 32 bit PC, I am constantly trying to print to my printer and finding the default set for no reason to Snagit. (Does anyone ever print in this way I wonder?) It is frustrating, SnagIt is a good program (except for the awful colour scheme), but this is an annoyance that stops me recommending it to others.
However I think this is something that TechSmith needs to look into and get fixed as if it is changing SnagIt to the default printer after printing to PDF or other then not changing back to your true default printer then this needs to be fixed. Just my opinion. Thanks Kyle and everyone for your posts and feedback here. Have a great day/night.
Any word on any fixes?

It appears now that Techsmith has resolved the printer-default problem. Thank You!
Snag-it was continuously selecting my "HP-Fax" as my default printer. As such, I would have to manually change the printer selection to HP Printer (vs fax) each time that I selected "print". This became a very frustrating issue for me since I routinely use Snag-It much of the computer day.
Now, thanks to the TechSmith bug fix, I am allowed to just press enter to print and that will select my "Windows Default Printer".
Guess this is one of things that should never had occurred in the first place, but if use SnagIt as much as I do, you are darn sure happy when the developers respond.
