I have problems when software makes changes without my consent, such as installing a cookie and hard driver cleaner and the product installs a toolbar and other crap.
During the install of SnagIt 12, I was never asked if I wanted the software to set itself as the default printer. Last night, when I went to print something to paper, SnagIt was the selected printer. It happened several more times this morning.
Yes, I realize it takes seconds to select a different print in the stable of available printers and print drivers, such as Acrobat, etc. The issue, though, is this is my computer and my computer is my digital home. Any software I buy or opt to install in my home is a guest and must act as a guest by asking my permission, especially if it wishes to move things, trash stuff, or change things -- especially looks or how things work -- in my home.
I set up my home for my convenience and speed. Having to fiddle around and select a printer when attempting to PRINT to paper is not my method of working. Having to reset my default printer back to what it should be -- and was -- takes about a minute or so total time, but it is still time wasted from my life, as I have already spent time customizing my home. I hate having to repaint the walls when visitors leave simply because they started painting the walls a color they preferred.
Speaking of repainting the walls ... I really, truly do detest the new color scheme. TechSmith are you going out of your way in attempts to make me go blind?
