PLEASE ADD THE WEB CAM OPTION....THAT IS THE MAIN REASON I UPGRADED...I got an email from Techsmith about my jingpro expiring and being downgraded to just jing...email was a bit misleading so I upgraded thinking I could use both my webcam and screen in the same recording. :( :(

I also would like to have a small webcam of myself on screen while i am giving a presentation with PPT. I have come up with a work around using another software from GVO that lets me do this but i prefer the Snagit file conversion methods. Would like to have everything in Snagit,

Yes, I vote for the webcam capture feature. I too miss it from JingPro.

Screencast-O-Matic lets you do this. The problem with the suggestion of opening the camera window on the side is that this would prevent me from having cam + PowerPoint presentation at the same time.

Hi. I would like to add my voice to the many others in this string. I LOVED JingPro and the ability to record myself then go to the screen capture. I was very disappointed today when I switched to Snag It and discovered that it does not do the BASIC thing for which I used JingPro -- switch back and forth between web camera and screen capture.

For the life of me I can't figure out why you would discontinue JingPro and replace it with Snaggit -- you just added "doodad" functionality to the basic Jing. Please, please please add web camera capabilities (ala Jing Pro) back to your customers. I used to recommend Jing Pro to large groups of educators. I no longer can recommend that and I wouldn't dream of recommending this doofus product to my colleagues.

Tiffany's work around above is a poor solution because if you record video of video by having a quicktime webcam window open the video is very choppy even on a fast computer.

My overall experience as a customer of techsmith has been extremely poor because of this change right after purchasing Jing then being required to update to snaggit only to have the main feature I wanted stripped from the software...

poor form.

YES! I'll jump on this bandwagon again. In general I am a big fan of techsmith products. But I too was burned in the dropping of Jing Pro and the transition to Snagit. I also teach and need the webcam integration to talk to my students switch back and forth from the screen.

I'll add the the equation of unsatisfaction that I actually bought 4 jing pro licenses for my business RIGHT BEFORE the snaggit switcheroo. Would have asked for a refund at the time had I known we would get no decent answers for over a year...

Thanks Patrick Steil.

We use the video feature every day to communicate to our online students. This feature is essential to our program.

With JingPro I would start my video screencast with me talking into the web cam and then switch to recording the movements on the screen after a few seconds all in the same video. I was told this was possible in Snagit so I bought it, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Please help!

Due to the amount of feedback in this thread, I am going to change this into an idea which helps us track it as a product feature.

The status will initially be "Not Planned" per the Product Manager's response, but like she said, "customer feedback plays an important role in determining what is in future releases."

The more comments and posts, the more likely it is to be implemented.

How about adding Webcam recording to SnagIt? I'd like to be able to take a quick video, push it to screencast and then share it with people. SnagIt would be ideal for this!

I just purchased SnagIt - and I too was disappointed that there is not a live feed pop-up window from my webcam - being able to toggle the picture-in-picture / fullscreen / not showing as a loop with one hotkey would be ideal. Another thought is a smart Picture-in-Picture that moves the small thumbnail to the corner furthest away from the cursor - or just simply a always-on-top video box that can be moved around the screen like Skype or Join.Me conference apps allow. Compared to all the other sophisticated features of SnagIt, this does not seem like a big deal.

This is crazy. TechSmith removed the webcam option from Jing Pro, stating the feature was available in Snagit... but it is not.

Why remove a great feature from Jing Pro, that you don't have or plan to include in Snagit? TechSmith has made a major feature matrix blunder if you ask me.

I spoke with a TechSmith sales rep at a conference this week and very nicely let him know how much the web cam feature is missed. He assured me he would personally pass the comment on to the product manager. It didn't sound like the feature is in the next release. But if those of us who need the web cam keep expressing our concern maybe we'll get it back soon.

Even if they supplied an 'always-on-top' webcam feed app along with SnagIt that had no boarders or logos or menus that could be launched it would be a big help! I downloaded something similar, but it has boarders and a logo that I am not happy with.

Another vote for adding cam support to Snagit. This is a deal breaker for us!

Many thanks,

I knew when TechSmith originally offered JingPro that they undercharged for it and that it was too good to be true.
It is unfortunate that in repairing their pricing mistake they ushered everyone into software that also took away important features.
Please Just Bring back Jing Pro and charge what it is worth.
You ought to listen to your customers or they will go away.

enough talk. techsmith obviously isn't listening or they feel the webcam switch isn't a widely used feature despite all our posts.

I'm looking for something new that will do this. anybody find anything, please post! thanks!

Webcam is pretty big in education - I make a lot of welcome videos & sample "modeling" videos for my student's webcam assignments. Now I capture with the microsoft camera and then edit the video in Camtasia. ALAS, my Camtasia "camera recording" (webcam) does NOT appear to like Windows 8 - which is why I had to get the microsoft sw.
I would seriously love for my students to be able to use Jing (and get inspired to get SnagIt) but the lack of a webcam feature makes it less useful for them.

But Techsmith - I am still a BIG fan!!! Camtasia 8 is great!
