i have used snagit for a number of years, and i am now experiancing my 1st issue. i have taken a screen capture, and i want to add in objects, such as arrows, text boxes etc; previously i could add these all in, then move them around as i wanted. now, i add them in and it flattens them automatically and i cant edit the object once ive clicked off it. how do i stop this?! its very very frustrating.
I have tried saving the image as a sng but this still doesn't resolve this as it is automatically saving them as jpg files.
thank you.

Hello Ms. Owen,
I apologize for your frustration. Perhaps Create as Vector has been turned off in Snagit Editor.

Please verify in Snagit Editor that you have Styles group > Effects > Create as Vector selected:

If that doesn't fix what you are experiencing, please let us know.

Thank you,
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany, Are you still there? I'm having the same problem of images flattening automatically, but the platform seems to have moved on so I can't see how to fix it with the solution you suggested here two years ago.

Got it - this thread and Tiffany's tip are about Snagit for Windows...a whole different app than the Mac version. This tutorial has some helpful info about when and how objects get flattened in Snagit for Mac 2.

Answered it myself -- Please disregard but will leafe the post if it helps others.  I recently started to save drawings and see that I should have saved then in the .snag format to retain the vector formatting.

"SnagIt Capture File Format (.snag)

The .SNAG file format is an Editor-only format that retains vector-based objects. If captures or image files containing vector objects are saved as a  format other than a .SNAG file, the vector objects will be flattened and made a permanent part of the image. Once flattened, the vector objects cannot be separated from the image."

origins post:
HI - Not sure if Tiffany or Daniel are still around to help me - been a loooong time Snagit user and currently using 12.3.1 (Build 2879) - Mar 5 2015.  All of a sudden all of my drawn objects seemed to be 'flattened' on the screen and I can't select them to change, move, delete -- very frustrating as I do not think I turned anything off (or if I did it was inadvertent).

I scanned this post and the link in it and the 'turn vector on' selection is not showing under 'effects'  for any of my drawing tools.

I checked in Advanced settings and there was a selection to flatten images automatically, but it is unchecked) -- I will keep hunting but thus far I am not seeing anything that says turn on vector

I am hoping you can quickly point me to where i can re- enable the editing of my drawn objects so I can once again be productive.  Thanks for any help!  Rick

In version 11, I can no longer pick "pen" drawn items (like to delete them) as I cold in version 10. Is there an option to make pen items pickable?

Hi Keith - I had a little trouble finding where this setting lives but for the pen tool you would click Draw tab > Pen tool > Effects > Create as Vector.

And your question prompted to me to right this setting in my own Snagit, too! Somehow it had defaulted to flattened pen lines and it bugged me but I hadn't asked around yet to find out how to fix it. So thanks for asking. :-)

Thanks Daniel, that does the trick and solves my "problem". I had never noticed the "create as vector" on any of the styles.

When I capture anything from my screen, then add a *plain* text callout, I cannot edit the text after closing the text box. To explain a bit more: this occurs immediately after entering the text - I do not save, resize, or execute any other function. I simply cannot reselect the text object to do any editing after I exit the text callout function.

I have no problem doing this with text callout in the "balloon", just the "plain" callout.

How do I reselect the plain callout to edit?

Is it normal that I can't select, move, or adjust the arrows once I have put one on my picture? This is very frustrating. I also cannot add a preset arrow to the "quick styles", I have to change it every time.

Prior to Snagit 10, I was able to use a stamp and resize it. I can no longer do this. The stamp does not have the handles to do this. what happened to resizing the stampls.

It would be helpful if Techsmith people, in answering a question about the PC version of Snagit, would also refer to whether it's different in the Mac version.

For example, I have just discovered (after long searching in this forum) that in the Mac version, an image will flatten automatically as soon as you use the Cut Out tool. This means that if you create one or more annotations with text boxes, and THEN realize that you need to clean up the page to make it more readable (by removing excess webpage capture, for example) or to trim the edges so it will enlarge better when pasted into a Word doc, you will lose your ability to get into the text boxes again when you make those trims/cutouts.

This is a terrible effect in the Mac version. I hope they will change it.
