Snagit: Automatically minimize editor after sending capture to output!

This is a feature request for Snagit!

Usually I need to add a few circles etc. to my capture in the editor before sharing it. Then I send the capture to word, to screencast or the like. Mostly I use keyboard shortcuts to do all this.

Regrettably it is not possible to automatically minimize the Snagit-Editor after sending / sharing the capture! Right now I always send the capture using CTRL-Enter but then I need to switch to my program using ALT-Tab. Ideally Snagit would minimize itself after sending the capture and (to make it perfect) would make Word (etc...) active.

Even better: Make it configurable in the profile which program to make active after sending an output:
a) the program the output was sent to
b) the previously active window
c) stay in Snagit Editor (current behavior)

Option a) and b) would automatically minimize the Snagit Editor.
Option c) makes only sense for those users who want to sent to several different outputs manually (or who want to continue editing).

Alternative idea: Make this configurable in the options of the output-accessories, not in the profile.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
SnagIt auto-minimize after share.

Hi,

is it possible to add an option to future version of SnagIt to automatically minimize (hide) the SnagIt editor window after clicking share button.
It was like that in Jing. I switched lately to SnagIt and I miss that part of my workflow. Now I have aditional step to close the editor window after sharing the image.

Also, a Jing-like upload progress bar located above tray would be better than currently available progress bar in the center of screen.

It's not an auto-minimize, but you can enable a shortcut that closes the editor on clicking escape.  If you click File, and then Editor Options, there is a setting called "Escape key closes Editor" that you can enable.

With this change, you can quickly close the editor after uploading.

I've also submitted your auto-minimize as a feature request to the Snagit Team.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. I was aware of this option, and it could be useful, but it's still one more extra key to press.

My workflow usually consist of capturing part of the screen, then sharing it and pasting the shared image/url to email or chat. It would be very helpful if SnagIt editor would autominimize after clicking desired Share option, since I don't need it after that.

Even more, it would be great if it is a profile specific option (like "capture cursor" or "timed capture"). If you add one more profile specific option like "auto-close editor after share" then users will be able to have diferrent profiles to switch between.

You have just the space for one more option button here :-)

Best regards,

This feature was available in Snagit 8 and earlier versions. The extra step, even just a simple click of 'esc' is very frustrating and I will be moving back to v8.

I don't want to use previous version and I hope that TechSmith will add this option in future version. Option doesn't hurt anyone and it's pretty easy to implement. I would say 30 minutes work for developer :-P
