SnagIt : Gradient fills for shapes needed please

In a future version of SnagIt, please can we be able to apply a gradient fill to a shape? I'm currently using v11.1 and I find it frustrating that I'm unable to do this.

Apparently you can only apply gradients to callouts. I used that technique and just made the arrow disappear by moving the point, but obviously that only works if the shape of the callout works for my graphic. This is indeed frustrating.

Wow! I have been on the Snagit team since 2006 and just now realized that we do not have gradient fills for shapes. I will definitely keep this in mind as we are looking over some of the editor tools. Thank you for the great feedback. Please keep it coming :)

I've been using SnagIt since you've been on the team and have wished for gradients for... ever. This would be enormously helpful, hope you can add it soon. (p.s. No, I'm not still on that version, I'm on 11.4.2 plus have the Mac version.)

Please.... If you add gradient fills, I will never have to open PaintShop again.
For starters and simplicity, give us two color choices and directions: Top to bottom, side to side, and outside to inside. I will be happy.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been using SnagIt for about 5 years now and definitely would find gradients useful. Especially modifying legacy images (that are older and more pixelated) for our engineering documents. Gradients would help blend new geometry. Everything Margaret said above would be great.

It should be the feature available in recent version of snagit

I would like to be able to use a variety of gradients on shapes as well. Sad you don't have them. It would also be nice to have a "snap" and "ruler" features to help align objects too. I see an align tool listed, but it doesn't seem to work with shapes. I have to "eyeball" everything, which is very frustrating and very time consuming as well.

I dearly love SnagIt and recently have found I can do many of my image editing tasks using it. I'd love to be able to abandon PhotoShop for some things but alas I do still occasionally find myself being forced to navigate the Millennium Falcon of applications for a few simple tasks.

Just yesterday I found myself needing to create a gradient background. I inserted a callout with no text, clicked Fill and saw Gradient was available. I figured this was going to be a snap! Unfortunately, it failed to meet expectations. Sigh... Looks like all it does is create a smooth edge to the outline color. Boo...

Any update on gradients?  I am surprised to see that it still seems to not be available.

Kind of unbelievable that an employee working at SnagIt since 2006 took 9 years to notice that there was no gradient on shapes. And now, three years later, even more unbelievable that it hasn't been implemented...

I'm astonished there are no gradient fills!  I'm now looking for a program that will allow me to do this!

Still no gradient? If you're not going to do anything for all the folks who need this feature, you could at least be candid about it.

I'm surprised that after 4 years of what I thought was a simple request, Techsmith have it as low priority and would rather that we move outside of their products to satisfy this requirement. This doesn't seem like the cleverest marketing strategy to me!

The text option is under the "Callout" section header and it doesn't have the gradient fill.
It's like they stopped halfway through the build.

Hard to believe gradients haven't been added. Every time I upgrade, I expect things to be fixed and enhanced - they still haven't fixed the Custom Trim option that was lost in 2016. A lot of people use Snagit as a basic design software - please don't ignore novice designers.

May I make a suggestion folks?

The original post is now 6 years old and has only gained 12 votes in that time.  I suspect that you might get more support with a more current audience by someone submitting a brand new request.  There's nothing to lose because, with 12 votes, this request is, to be honest, going nowhere.  A new one just might.  I have noticed in other apps that gradient fills (which were deeply out of fashion 6 years ago) are making a comeback.  That's fashion for you!

Oddly enough, when I searched past posts for the request for gradient fills. I found one from you from a year ago or so.https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/i-need-to-draw-a-box-with-a-gradient-fill

Apparently it started out as a question. Then was switched to an idea for you. It didn't gain any traction or votes. Although, your will find my vote there.

I'm actually surprised they didn't merge it into this thread. Because I've seen them consolidate these requests in most cases.

Regards, Joe

Ha ha.  I barely remember that request even now.  Shows you how often I use gradient fills

I use gradient fills all the time... I have resorted to using another tool specifically for this.

Hey there

What tool are you using? Can you give us a link?

My comment was a bit misleading. I use gradient fills for SCADA icon/button animations. This capability/feature is provided within the SCADA development environment I work in daily.

Any news on this simple 6-year old request?
