I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but after you take the video, while your are in Snagit editor with the video, you can click the button to "Capture Frame".  See screenshot.  Does this help?

While i am recording, at the very same time i want to screenshot. While at the same time Snagit is recording, i want to use Snagit to screenshot. Not afterwards.

Thanks!

I don't know then.  I'm curious - why and why does it matter if you capture the frame after recording?

I want to record a 2-3 hour session, and watch at the same time taking notes and screenshots during that time. I don't want to invest even more time afterwards going through it all again screenshotting the parts I want in my notes. Thanks!

Unfortunately, Snagit can only do one thing at a time.  It can record a video or take a capture but not both at once.  If you want a screen capture while taking a video it's going to require another capture tool besides Snagit.

What a shame! I tried Jing at the same time which worked, but there are too many steps involved in each screenshot making it too slow for my purposes of taking rapid shots during a presentation. there seem to be plenty of good alternatives out there now so I'll have to move on. Can anyone recommend one? Thanks
