Snagit is preventing my screen saver from starting (Win 7)

After installing Snagit ver 12, my screen saver is no longer able to active (or go into screen saver mode).

After I close out all Snagit programs, the screen saver works fine.

One other note, I believe the Screen Saver is blocked because of the Red Button dialog along the top.  Once Snagit starts, I don't know if there is an option to run with hot keys only or other.  
Look forward to hearing from those in the know.

On my system [Win 7 64 on a Lenovo laptop] with an external monitor; if Snagit 12 is open, the monitor will never shut off [power save option]; I have filed a bug report on this

exit Snagit 12 and the monitor will shut off as expected [after 30 minutes]

I have determined that this is independent of the capture UI showing [red button thing]  you can set the UI's behavior [show or not show] in Snagit's preferences - capture window and notification icon section

I went into the Preferences>General>Capture Window and Notification
Choose the middle option "Enable Notification Area Icon" which turns off the big Red Dot.

Fixed things right up.

Screen saver working now.

Hmm... Having to turn off a key feature of the product to prevent a key feature of the operating system not working (and by key feature I mean that preventing the OS going into screen saver mode can be a security risk because some organisations have the OS to lock the PC when it enters the screen saver).

Also this problem did not exist in 11.2 (or 11.3...I cannot recall the exact version) which has the pre-cursor of the "big red dot" function.

This is a bug in version 12 that need to be fixed. I look forward to the upcoming point release that fixes it.

After a lot of trouble-shooting, I determined that I'm experiencing the exact same issue on my Windows 8.1 Pro PC as well as my Windows 7 PC! You can run the command "powercfg /requests" to confirm the culprit is SnagIt 12. I agree with Steve's sentiment. I have little doubt that this bug is much more widespread, but most people probably won't realize what's causing the symptom. I submitted a ticket to Techsmith last night, which has yet to be assigned to an agent.

Hi everyone.  A little late (sorry about that!), but this was indeed a bug in 12.0.  We have since fixed the problem, so if you update to 12.2 that should fix the problem.  If it does not, please let us know, thanks!
