Snagit 11.4 - where is the Close / Delete command and icon?

Today I upgraded Snagit to v 11.4.0 and I cannot find the Close command or icon.  This tool is essential on my Quick Access Toolbar for quickly closing screen captures that I've already saved or copied to other programs.  I will downgrade this program if the Close tool has been removed.

Me Also... I'm killing myself (almost an hour) trying to find it - googling it brought me here. Come on TechSmith - what an oversight. I, also will be downgrading to version 11.3 if there is no solution. I use it dozens of times per day.

The Close functionality is not available through the quick access toolbar or File menu in 11.4, but there are three other ways to Close a capture:
1. Hover over the image thumbnail in the bottom tray and click the "X" button.

2. Right click on the thumbnail in the tray, and select the Close menu item.

3. Press Ctrl+F4 on the keyboard with the capture active.

Please let us know if one of these options does not meet your needs.

Tim, Thanks for responding so quickly. I'm still very disappointed that someone chose to eliminate this command... You folks provide over 300+ optional commands to add to this "Quick Access Toolbar"... It is hard to identify an action more common than "Close Image" that is in the same class as your default "Quick Access Icons/Actions" [Open, Save, Print, Undo, Redo]. Close, should have been one of the defaults - the 6th icon.
Was this an oversight or was it intentional? ... someone - Please explain to me your Logic (Keep 300+, but Eliminate this one - "Close Image")
I will Downgrade my (2) Licenses to 11.3.0 until I can verify that your next version restores this critical "Quick Access Icon/Action"
Thanks though, for a Great Product, been using it for over a decade - I think

It was intentionally removed from the File menu as part of the simplification of the product. One of our goals for this release was to make Snagit not feel as overwhelming when you see it for the first time.  Just this 1 menu item may be pretty harmless, but if you collectively say that about dozens or hundreds of items, Snagit can start to become overwhelming.

Given that there are other methods of closing, we removed this File menu option, which consequently removes it from the Quick Access Toolbar commands.  However -- I am not sure we fully recognized that we would also be taking away pre-existing customizations as a consequence.

Can I try to drill into what you specifically like about having the close functionality located in the quick access toolbar vs. just clicking on the X on the thumbnail?  They're both single clicks... so, is it more convenient (in one consistent location), more obvious (at the top of the window), or something else?  If you've been a long time Snagit user, you might remember Snagit 8, which had even bigger "Finish/Done" and "Cancel" buttons at the top of the UI.  I do know we've previously gotten some feedback when we changed that in Snagit 9.  I can't make any promises about this functionality, but we're listening.  I appreciate the feedback and support.

I move my Quick Access Toolbar to display below the ribbon, where both the Copy and Close functions used to be near each other (I now see that the Copy All tool has moved to a different location on the toolbar, too).  I customize all of my Office products the same way, and find that having all of the tools near each other optimizes my mouse moves/clicks and consistency amongst all of the products that I regularly use.  If you're going to design your GUI with the ribbon look and feel, it needs to act the same way and stay consistent.  The frustrating part of totally removing the Close tool is that it isn't even available in the Customize Quick Access Toolbar All Commands window, so there's no way to add it back into the QAT.  Even Microsoft, in moving to the ribbon model, kept most of its old tools available to re-add to the QAT if desired.  Totally removing the Close tool doesn't make any sense to me.

Tim... Why call it "Quick Access Toolbar" if you're not allowing the most common "Action/Icon" to be part of QAT.  Let's take a "User Poll" of the most commonly used Actions: [Capture Image, Open Image, Edits to Image, Save Image, Print Image, Undo Action, Redo Action, Close Image, etc.]; of your 300+ Functions offered thru customizing your QAT.

1) Close = 100% of my images get closed (eventually) regardless of their source (Capture, Open, etc.)
2) Capture = 80+% vs 20% "Opened from other Sources ("Capture Image" = Separate Utility)
3) Open = (For Me ? Maybe 20%) ... Opening from Previous or Other Sources ... Usually "Captured"
4) Save = 90% +/- of My Captures, but not always ... Almost as common as "Close Image"
5) Print = Under 5% ... With Image Viewers & Big Monitors - who needs to "Print" (Hard Copies)
6) Undo = Occasionally ... Not Often
7) Redo = Occasionally ... Less Often
8) Editing = Text, Borders, Lines, Shading, Highlighting, etc ... common but Ribbon Serves these well

Guess what comes to the TOP of my most commonly used "Actions/Icons", that Rank in the Top Two (2) Functions in my use of SnagIt ("Close Image Function"). It certainly belongs in the default Group of 5 or 6 Top Functions - not to be deleted from the 300+ more obscure (less used) functions that can be added to a customized QAT... Very Disappointed - The Fluency of "Capture / Save / Print / Close / etc", from the top QAT without having to move to the bottom of our big (high res) monitors, every time we need to "Close" our images, was excellent (superb) in your previous versions. Shame on TechSmith

But the way, Tim, I referenced using SnagIt for the past Decade... I'm finding versions back to 1994-1995. Try (2 Decades)... Have loved it thru all those years - Thanks & Kudos to TechSmith

Everyone seems to be missing the "Ctrl+W" option. This is the one I use all the time so as to not be constantly moving my hand back and forth from the keyboard to the mouse and vice versa. This functionality still works on an open image. I would like to complain about the removal of the "Folder" view though. All the programs that use the 'new' library style at least still offer folder view as an option but I can't find it anywhere in this new version. Navigating by date or program is a pain. It is a lot easier to remember the file name and location than when the image was acquired and from which program. I  will try it for a while but suspect that, like others have stated, I may go back one version just to have my 'folder tree' back.

I use this constantly and I create customized buttons where I can QUICKLY move down the line bam bam bam with the last two being close and exit, which EVERY single capture gets. I find it incredibly annoying that this is gone. With my next paid upgrade or paid replacement I'll be sure this function is available. Thx

ps; is the Ctrl+F4 on the keyboard reprogramable with custom commands? If so, where?

SnagIt 11.4. Add Delete and Close commands to the ribbon.

SnagIt 11.4. I want to add Delete and Close file to the ribbon but I don't see it in the list of commands. I was able to do this in the last version. Please advise.

Thank you for including the Close tool in the version 11.4.1 update!!  One note for those who uninstalled v 11.4 - you'll need to "update" twice in order to take advantage of the re-added tools - the first update to install v 11.4 and the second time to update to 11.4.1.
