Is there a way to capture video from your screen with the audio that comes out of your speakers?

Hi all,

I'm testing out Snag It's capabilities and was wondering if the video capture option can capture audio. It seems to capture the video of YouTube clips, but the audio is missing. My speakers are on...do I need a microphone of some sort?

If someone could extend some insight/suggestions, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I downloaded Snagit 11 last night and when I captured a video there was no sound. So I installed it on my laptop and captured the video - this time there was sound but it was the sound of our TV!

Both the desktop and laptop are running Windows 7.

What gives with SNAGIT 11 sound? Can't get it to work.

I am trying to do a video capture of a YouTube video but the only way to get the audio to record is to use the built in mic on my lap top "listening" to the speakers. This gives me background noise and not very good quality.- I can't figure out how to get to audio that I hear through the head phones to go directly to the video recording on Snaggit.

If you want to capture a YT video, you will have to mute your mic in Snagit before you record so it does NOT pick up the sound from your speakers. Make sure you have the new version of Snagit released today.

Great addition - makes video and content easy to capture in one operation and use it as playback in a training environment.

Do not install these craps on OS X 10.8.2 (and upwards) unless you really need them. These makes the shutdown time of Mac slower like Windows PC.

Its very difficult to get rid off them. You can run verbose mode after removing these craps on Mac to get the list / location.

Hi Ed - Snagit on Mac does record system audio via Soundflower. For details on how to configure things, please see Snagit on Mac: System Audio Recording Guide

i have recently bought snagit,i was impressed so far, until i was recording a video with a skype call, i could not record the skype call sound while recording the video, i am dissapointed as the video said only windows xp is not available with this new add on, i am on windows vista and i see no button for this anywhere, could you please try to get system audio on vista please, im trying to record the sound from skype, and it makes it very difficult to record videos, as i would have to install a load of programs that aren't necessary when the feature is available, but just not for people before win 7 this is annoying for me, as my computor would be a lag fest if i upgraded again, and i would not be able to record at all, and it will be at least a year before i can afford a new computor, and to install snagit again, by then i don't know what could of happened, im sure a lot of people would be bored of just 1 person, who plays the by himself, so i would really appreciate compatibility for vista, but f you are busy with other things, that is understandable, but it would cause me a lot less trouble if you added for vista thanks.

Recording system audio on XP is not possible even with Camtaisa. Been that way for years. Its not Techsmiths problem, its the operating system can't do it. Vista and Windows 7 and 8 supported only.

If you get the new version of Snagit 11, you can download it from their site now, it supports system audio. It been out for a while now. I seen some people having problems with Vista and Snagit 11 and system audio. I use it with no problems on Windows 7. Works good.

Option to record system audio as I make videos with SnagIt would be a godsend..

The ability to record system audio would make things MUCH less of an inconvenience, rather than me having to involve a couple of other programs to circumvent this problem.

For Mac users who have not updated to Mavericks, you can find instructions for recording system audio here.

Unfortunately, for users who are on Mavericks, we’re facing an
incompatibility issue at the moment, and I regret to say that we do not have a viable solution for recording system
audio at this time (microphones, however, work just fine). I apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you updated!

Recording system audio with Snagit (for Mac).

I'm at a loss at figuring out how to capture system audio w/ Snagit when producing a video. I'm using version 2.3 I'm new to this program, just downloaded it, and can't seem to find out-dated answers elsewhere in this website.

Cannot record system audio (BUG on Mac version).

Your video capture on Mac does not work properly. Even though I choose "System Audio" from the drop down, it still uses the microphone. Please fix this bug. I am on OSX 10.8.2 (Mtn Lion) using Snagit v2.1.5 (75606) and a Thunderbolt Display (i.e the sound goes through a thunderbolt connection) but that should not matter. I am on a brand-new MacBookPro 15" Retina. Thanks.

No Sound with Snagit 11 Video recording.

I have the same problem - no sound recording with Snagit 11. By the way I also tried two other freeware software for video-screen capture - the same issue: no sound recording. I tried the installation on 32bit and 64bit Win XP and 64bit Win 7 - the result is the same: no sound recording. I do see the devices in the drop down menu but selecting the right device does not help. I wonder why no one tested those software before they offer it. It is such waste of time !

Hey Snagit Mac users!

While I don't have a perfect solution right now, I am happy to say that a fix is (and has been - I'm a little tardy in updating this) in active development. Provided we don't run into any snags (heh), it will be in an upcoming release. We appreciate your patience with this!

I don't have a specific date, but I think I am safe in saying that it will be well before the end of the year. I'm sorry that I have to be so vague - all depends on how things go in testing.

Here's where to enable the capture of system audio (the sound that comes from your speakers) while making a video recording in the latest versions of Snagit on Windows and Mac.

Using the All-in-One tab to capture:

See guide for Win or Mac

Using the Video tab to capture:

See guide for Win or Mac

Note: the first time you do system audio capture on Mac you will be prompted to download and install a free plugin to enable this.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Starting a video capture of a webinar is fine with both screen and audio, but my ....

I use Snagit12 on a Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows. Any time I record a Skype Onlinemeeting, I happen to record the slides and animations and Screens, that the presenter is showing; I happen to record the words and sounds that the presenter is saying; BUT I cannot record my own voice, although I choosed my Headset in the beforehand popup, before the recording is actually starting (3, 2, 1, ...). What configuration is missing where? Why is there only the Video and Audio data of the Skype Onlinemeeting being recorded, but nothing of my own voice? Is Snagit12 capable of this or do I have to by expensive Camtasia?

I'd also recommend Acethinker Online Screen Recorder which I have been using for many years. It supports recording system and microphone or both. Free and works fairly well for me.
