SnagItEditor v11.3: Copy to Clipboard doesn't work. Anyone out there has a quick solution?

Copy-pasting an image from SnagItEditor v11.3 may suddenly stop working.
This may happen once in a while.
The 'slow' solution is to reboot the pc.
A quicker solution (workaround) is to capture using FastStone and use that tool to do the screencapture and paste that into an application.

SnagIt Exiting and restarting does not solve it.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

That may need help from Technical support. Have you tried a total uninstall, reboot and reinstall? That would at least narrow things down a bit as it may be a windows issue, especially if you are on Windows 10
If you need to get the last latest installer for v 11, Current Full and old version can be downloaded either via FTP (copy and past the address into your browser) or from the web page

ftp.techsmith.com / ftp://ftp.techsmith.com/

Maybe 11.3 is the problem.
I'm not sure why your so reluctant to upgrade to 11.4.3 I know you've posted about other problems with 11.3 as well.
I don't use 11.4.3 often but it's stable every time I use it.
I tried running 11.3 on Windows 10 and could not.Every time I started a capture I got the initial pop up as it it were my first capture ever, followed with "Let me try".
To the right of this post I see two listed issues.
https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/snagit-v11-3-regularly-the-hotkey-doesnt-work-anymor...
https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/snagiteditor-v11-3-lost-data

I just gotta wonder if 11.3 is worth it? There are bug fixes included in every update.

Something to consider

Thing is that normally it works fine. Like just now, I copy ex SnagItEditor and paste it into Word, or Outlook. No issue. Usually it isn't.
If I were to reboot my pc, then it would work fine and may be working fine for quite a while, days, or maybe even a week or two.
Then, all of a sudden, it doesn't. As I am running the usual stuff and do not see anything weird in the taskmanager I have no clue as to what might be causing it.
It gets even stranger when clipboard works fine whilst using other applications, such as FastStone or the built in Windows paint.
So the [Copy All] button within SnagItEditor suddenly doesn't work anymore.

As for using 11.4.0 - I am not really sure anymore but I believe I did install it at the time it was released and went back to 11.3 shortly thereafer. That was way back in January 2014. When was it that TechSmith left the 'folder'-idea by replacing it with a library, was that v12? I don't know anymore.
(Yes... I admit, I am an old goat being used to v11 GUI, knowing his way around there and see no profit in using a product-GUI that I don't like and to get things done with more clicks)

Windows 10 crashed on me back in March.
I didn't know what happened, the computer was 100% unresponsive. Black screen, dead keyboard, power was on,mouse was illuminated.I forced a power down and when I restarted it.

I had to reinstall Windows from scratch.

You however,  have an option.I suggest considering before it's to late. Windows 10 makes a reinstall of the operation system pretty easy.It will keep your files and folders in tact but I would export the important ones to another drive to be safe.
You would need to reinstall any programs but it sounds like your wife doesn't use them.So it should be a pretty quick and painless operation.
Hopefully.
Recovery is found in Windows "Settings"

If you are on windows 10, check your restore point settings. It defaulted to OFF. So many complained that they changed the default .. but left it set at 0% reserved for restore points so ... NO RESTORE Points until you manually allow space

I wasn't referring to a restore point.Restore points are nothing more than a crap shoot. Unless you use them immediately after running into a problem.
Restore points should still be found if you go through system and security using the control panel. Backup and restore (Windows 7)

I was suggesting a reinstall of Windows 10 "Recovery"if you will, or live with the glitches.I wouldn't, but that's just me. I don't have the patience for a glitches, in general.Windows 10 gives me no grief.

No you weren't referring to  restore points. I was just ranting about something else but in the same vein that has been broken

Good luck with the restore points if you have not changed from the Windows 10 defaults. Youwon't have any

Yeah, I think I do recall changing  a setting for that. I manually create restore points from time to time.Usually just before I install a new program or remove one.

Let's see . . . :-)

SnagIt v11.4.3 (build 280)

The install went exceptionally fine this time.
Installed it into the same folder and it all the profiles were right in place. Waow!
(The first time I installed it at the time, Jan 2104, I ended up with some cryptic
error 'GetGdiplusBitmap-Image-PDF-SAPAVBitmap-Gdiplus-AEHVCSize-Z
could not find in file PDFLib.dll."   -  whatever)

Surprisingly - no errors and..  SnagIt worked!
Above all, all profiles settings were kept in place. Normally I would need to 'set'
the location again for each profile setting, requiring roughly 7-8 clicks per profile.
(non default save-location)

Library: is there a way to 'automatically' remove broken links from the library by default? (e.g. when exiting SnagIt).
Linking to images that have been placed in a password protected container, or that have been safed into different folders.

Except then to manually delete all the .snag files from
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\TechSmith\Snagit\DataStore\

Up front, I am not sure (yet) but maybe untagging
"Automatically save new image and text captures in the Library"
(SnagItEditor v11.4) would be an idea.
Just noticed this option.
when creating a screenshot, there will be a .snag (temp) file.
once hitting 'finish profile' the file is saved to e.g. a .jpg or .png
and the temp files are gone.

@Mike62. That list is some of the things I tried first. What you will find when you search out there is that there are many fixes that worked for someone.  One issue I think is related to a Corel product but  the others all came in with Windows Updates. My wife's computer won't take windows updates. Nothing I can find fixes it and I have gone way beyond the built in stuff. The fix is to get up the gumption to reinstall windows.
Want to talk about permissions or networking? Permissions: Every so often I have a blank graphic. All of a sudden on one owns it even though administrator permissions seem to be in place. Yes I know the fix but ... really? Sharing: You share stuff but no one can see it. It is shared, the ACL is correct. The other machines are correct but you forgot a hidden setting under advanced sharing?

Rick, obviously you also tried the usual stuff, such as sfc, chckdsk, as well as checking the eventlog and also applied more 'advanced solutions' like:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
see
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7808-use-dism-repair-windows-10-image.html

however, my experience is that once things are 'broken' the chances to get them fixed are very remote and you end up doing a clean install. In the answers.microsoft.com often that is what is advised: chkdsk, sfc, re-install

Personally, after a clean install and pulling in all the updates and have a clean Windows system (without any applications) I create an image - using Macrium Reflect.
see: https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

Then I start out installing all applications. I have a fixed sequence of installing things and I have screenshots of all the setups and the settings.

After every few applications I again create a new image, so I won't need to start all over again, should something go wrong.
Yes, it takes quite a while to set things up this way.

In the end, after everything has been installed and after having worked with all for a few days, I create the final image.

Every -say- 7-10 days, I create a new full image and/or when intending to install anything new, like SnagIt v11.4.3,  I first create an image.

Imaging is boring thing that takes some 10 minutes, but over the years it saved me a lot of time.

Just my 2cents

Thanks for the marcum link. I may add that. I keep all documents on a separate HD and have a backup system designed by my "Department of redundancy department" :))
I haven't bothered with imaging since most of it is off the c drive and I do back up the profiles (Desktop, contacts etc)

Next, let me tell you about the tim the cat moved the desktop. I freaked a bit while finding it :))

All the 'Windows' stuff above aside...

Once again, about SnagIt updating/upgrading.

Out of curiosity..

at the time you performed an upgrade from an earlier version to v12 or v13
1. Did you install it into the same folder, i.e. overwriting an existing SnagIt ?
2. Have you set a specific save-folder in your profiles (I am saving -all- captures, even video, into 1 folder on a different partition and they are all saved using the same name and date-time stamp added to the name
(Automatic file name: SnagIt-<DayNum><MonthNum><Year4> <Hour24><Minute><Second>.png)
Later I rename the files and move them into whatever other subfolder.

I have a lot of different profiles, with/without preview, with/without border/with/without delay, caption, ask for filename, zoom, fixed region, scanner, etc.

Sofar, each time, after upgrading/updating, I needed to set the destination folder for each and every profile, some 7-8 clicks per profile. Pretty boring.
Whilst other settings didn't change, this specific one did.

Now, after updating to 11.4 the folder setting miraculously were kept, I didn't need to go thru all the steps. This really was a big relief. All profiles were working as they should.

Hence the above questions.

All this assuming that you did not uninstall the earlier version first.

oh, btw, as a wild guess only, maybe this was because I imported the profiles into the new version  (.snagprof file)?

As to question 1.
Each version of SnagIt installs to it's own folder.

As to 2.
The profiles should be carried forward automatically.

However, the safest practice is to export and save your profiles from SnagIt 11.

Then you can import them into any version of SnagIt you want.
