Say I have two screenshots and I select a part from screenshot 1.
Then copy that part into screenshot 2.
I would like that pasted section to 'stand out' a bit more, so it is clear that the section isn't a part of the original screenshot.
Hence I would like to add a colored border around the section.
Right now I first need to flatten the section, then add a border.
Does anyone out there know of an easier workaround?
Oh btw, what is the option to have the mouse-pointer automatically flattened?
I have "Capture Cursor"=ON by default.
If my memory serves me well, in the past the pointer wasn't an 'object'.
However, in v.2018 it is. I am unaware of an option that "flattens' the mouse-pointer/cursor,
same as with the old versions
Thanks!

To your first point, you could try drawing a box shape around the object. Then group them. It's not a perfect solution but worth a try.
To you second point I think they changed the behaviour to help people like me who forget to turn off mouse capture and don't realise till after they have made the capture. It gives us the chance to delete it, instead of having to recapture. It doesn't solve your problem but it does explain it.

When you make your selection of screenshot 1, BEFORE you copy and paste it to screenshot 2
add your boarder. Don't click apply to your selection on screenshot 1 after adding the boarder or it will be become added to the screenshot.
If you do click apply you can usually Ctrl-Z to undo though but you don't need to apply the boarder to your selection to copy and paste it to screenshot 2.
You don't have to flatten and the boarder becomes part of the selection 1. No grouping needed.

Don't know if it's a bug.
I speculate it's more of a focus point or maybe a Windows thing.
It's like sometimes if you try to right-click paste info in to a form field (say like a password)
even though you see it pasted it doesn't take but if you Ctrl-V in the form field it works.
Go figure??

Actually, I got to thinking about it. It's normal and to be expected.
By right clicking the canvas, your changing the focus of the Canvas before applying the border.
If you use the drop down "Edit Menu" you can click Copy and it works just fine.

Magnificent!
Many thanks. Hope one day the right click menu thing will be solved, but till then this solution is super indeed.
Again, thanks a lot!

Never mind, now it's not working. I'm pretty sure I tricked myself by applying a saved quick style. Either way, it's screwy behavior.

No worries Mike.
If it helped you to move forward faster than that's a good thing.

When I copy a selection and click effects > border it adds a border to my selection that I then paste to the next selection.
Is that what you mean?

You have two screen shots.
In the "Recent tray" click on screenshot 1 to put it on the canvas.
With the selection tool, make a selection. You should now have the marching ants around your selection.
Under the "Effects" click boarder and the color and width you want. Don't click apply, just Ctrl-C to copy your selection with the boarder.
Now click on your second screenshot in the "Resent" tray to put it on the canvas and Ctrl-V to paste your selection w/boarder on to screenshot two.
This also works with edges effect.

The effects > border adds the border to the "copied copy" so it’s not necessary to "copy" it again
Just copy selection then effects > border then paste into image #2.
