Hi,

What version of Snagit are you running? This should be fixed in our latest update, version 4.1.5.
If you're still seeing high CPU usage on the latest version, please let us know.

Hi Luke

I've seen this exe before and I've always wondered. Are you able to give us the "nutshell" version of its intended purpose?

Thanks... Rick :)

Hi Rick,

Sure thing! Snagit Helper is an app that is in charge of doing image and video captures, whereas the main Snagit app is where the editing is done. The helper is usually always running so that you always have access to the capture window and hotkeys at all times.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Hi Luke,

I've already updated it to the latest version(4.1.5 78109 MacOS) before I creating this feedback.

Interesting. And you're not recording a video or anything? First I would try quitting SnagitHelper and relaunching Snagit. If that doesn't solve it, then in Snagit's general preferences, I would turn off the Send Anonymous Usage Information and then restart SnagitHelper again.

Let us know if either of those works.

I can confirm that, running 4.1.5 78109 on the Mac, I see 15-20% CPU utilization. Once I turned off Send Anonymous Usage Information and restarted Snagit, SnagitHelper no longer consumed so much CPU.  I also turned off the TechSmith newsfeed, but that didn't seem to make much difference, so I turned it back on.

Hi,

I don't believe Jing has this feature. Are you seeing Jing using a lot of CPU?

Jing does, the option appeared the first time I've installed jing on the mac it asked me below the login with a checkbox to send anonymous usage, unfortunately when I logged in it was checked.

I've tried uninstalling jing and reinstalling it but my login information is stored somewhere in the mac. As an alternative, I would like to completely remove jing from the mac and reinstall it to uncheck that box. As the option is not on the settings to be unchecked (big developer mistake there).

At the moment I don't have high cpu usage but I just installed it yesterday and is not enough time to measure cpu usage.

Hi,

You should be able to see instant CPU usage in Activity Monitor. I looked at Jing and it doesn't appear to have the issue that Snagit has. If you'd like to disable tracking for other reasons, then you'll need to contact our Tech Support so they can help you do a full uninstall/reinstall of Jing.

Hi,

Oh no! Here are a few things you can try to get it back down to the 0-1% range

1. Quit SnagitHelper and relaunch Snagit
2. In Snagit's preferences, disable "Send anonymous usage information" and restart Snagit and SnagitHelper
3. If those don't work, open up a ticket with our Tech Support team
