Spacebar doesn't pause and start a video on Screencast.com

I have a paid Screencast account and Camtasia 2018.  I also have a friend with poor eyesight.

When she plays a video on YouTube, she can press the spacebar to pause and restart it.  Screencast.com does not seem to have this functionality.

Why would this be A Good Thing?  My friend could start a video (because the start button is large and quite visible to her).  But the Pause and Restart button, down in the lower left of the playing canvas, are not.

The controls at the bottom disappear during playback (or partly cover the playback if the video was produced with auto-hide off), and are hard to find with her eyesight.  On the almost black background, it's even more difficult for her to find the playback controls at all.

It would help her tremendously if she could pause with the spacebar when she wants to view something more carefully, and equally useful to restart with the spacebar.

Please consider this.  The only alternative is to post a handful of videos on YouTube, which I have managed to avoid until now.

On the other hand, if it's possible to make the spacebar work as described, please let me know how!

Much thanks!  Kim

ask your friend to try stopping/playing by clicking with mouse on the video frame itself; seems to work for me

Hi Kim,

Thank you for the feedback.  We have done a lot of work to make our video player accessible using the keyboard.  After reading your post I found a bug that prevents tabbing to the player controls when they are hidden.  We will work to fix that issue as soon as possible.

When working correctly, all the controls can be tabbed to select and activated using the spacebar.  As for play / pause of the video, a user will have to tab to the video progress bar or the play / pause button for spacebar to toggle playback.

We are also looking for any feedback to make our video player more accessible.  If there are other issues or improvements we can make I'd love to hear them.

Thank you,
Ben

Hi Kim,

I just shipped a bug fix that now lets you tab to the Smart Player video controls when they are hidden.

Thanks for reporting the issue.

Hi Ben

When you say you "just shipped a bug fix", does that mean you notified the developers or that the fix is included in today's update that was released?

Cheers... Rick :)

Hi Rick,

It means that I fixed the bug in the Smart Player and pushed a new version to our CDN which is what screencast.com pulls from.  Hope that answers your question.
