Just like in the VLC player,.. you can make the clip go faster,.. the sound (voice) is of course faster too,... but the pitch of the audio does not change.
This is great for watching tutorial videos,.. most of the times they are too boring to watch at 100% speed.
If Camtasia Studio would offer that we could speed up what we have recorded (just like it is now) only without it effecting audio pitch,... well that would just be a phenomenal feature and you would have a much better product.
Thanks for taking the time to post this great feedback. I took the liberty of tagging this with additional products, including Screencast.com. Are you thinking that the viewer would have control over the speed, or as the content creator, you would set the speed for your viewers.
I'm sure a case could be made for having both, but I was curious to see how you would use this capability.
We like a challenge though, and this is a great topic for our product teams to talk about.
On a personal note, I often crave a 1.8x speed or there about. For example, if I'm watching a recorded webinar.
Thanks, and please keep your feedback, examples, and ideas coming!
While Camtasia Studio does have clip speed, it does not have the ability to not change the pitch for sped up audio. This is under consideration for a future release of Camtasia Studio.
First: There is no "ripple adjust". I cannot say "Make this clip faster, and then move everything after it up on the timeline". I cannot say "Make this clip slower, and move everything after it down later on the timeline".
Second: There is no way to adjust any other track to compensate. Just looking at a typical recording, there will be a video track and two audio tracks -- yet only one of those audio tracks can be adjusted with the video, and only if you have not separated them into different tracks. There is no "adjust the speed of all of these tracks at the same time".
Third: When previewing at high speed -- if I set the clip to 300% speed, and review it, when I find the place I'm interested in doing something -- if I try to set the clip to 100%, to fine-tune what I am doing, then the playhead position in timeunits does not change, but the section of film that I am looking at is now very different. I cannot lock the playhead to the frame, and adjust the time setting, the playhead is always locked to the time offset from zero.
Fourth: While one potential work-around is to make a split, and adjust clip speeds, this has problems in that:
1: Lacking ripple adjustments for speed, I cannot select an entire track of mixed speed recordings, and set them all to 100%.
2: Lacking any ability to adjust multiple tracks' speed together, I cannot do this if there are multiple tracks of adjusted speed,
3: Lacking any ability to say "This section really does need to be locked at speed X for exporting", there is no way to both make sure everything is reset to normal, EXCEPT for what actually does need to be altered.
EDIT: 4: This litters my track with clips. And there is no way to unsplit the splits; stitching is not acceptable because it does not behave the same and looks distracting.
I cannot control the speed of multiple tracks together.
I cannot ripple-adjust all the right sides of all the tracks to account for speed changes -- this is useful for "Fit this piece into that space", but not for "This section of the whole thing needs to be faster because it's boring".
Attempting to use this for highspeed preview during editing wants a different set of features than using it for it's intended purpose -- adjusting the speed of a clip in export
LOOK, if you don't understand the VALUE, let me help:
#1 - NOBODY HAS TiME for videos to playback at normal speed now.
#2 - YOUTUBE has a double speed option for almost a years now, FiNALLY,
proving this to be true.
#3 - ViDEOS that we can speed up & keep the speaking voice pitch normal mean:
****SMALLER ViDEO FiLES*****************
************FASTER UPLOAD SPEED*********
*****LESS HARD DRiVE SPACE******
*****MORE CONTENT IN LESS TiME
CONSUMED BY THE END USER*******
ALMOST EVERY ViDEO ON THE MARKET
CAN BE iMPROVED BY SIMPLY SPEEDiNG
UP PLAYBACK AUTOMATiCALLY AT __LEAST 15%__
IF NOT 50-100%.
PLEASE ADViSE ON WHY NOT & WHEN WE CAN GET THIS FEATURE
INTO TECHSMiTH SNAGiT & CAMTASiA STUDiOS,
BECAUSE I CAN PROMiSE YOU, YOUR COMPETiTiON iS
ALREADY ON THiS, OR WiLL BE SOON.

Has this been implemented for Camtasia Studio yet? I see above that it has for the Mac version.
When you are editing a clip with audio on the timeline, and change the clip speed, we really do need the option to adjust clip speed without affecting the pitch. It is not a useable feature when used with any audio clips unless you want your voiceover to sound like a chipmunk or a 500 pound gorilla.
I understand that I can alter the clip speed in another 3rd party program, but I really shouldn't have to. This should be a checkbox within Camtasia properties, or something within the preferences where you can enable or disable pitch change with clip speed adjustment.
Please add this feature!
