Hi there, I'm trying to split part of my clip and move it further down in my timeline, but it seems to be conjoined with the video and won't move at all. I'm working in Version 7.1. Please help!

After you split, does it work if you press and hold the Shift key as you click and drag?

Nope, it bounces right back to the original spot if I press and hold Shift.

Can you Cut, and Paste the video to another location.
I do not have 7 installed at the moment, so I cannot test the issue you are experiencing.
However, you can do
Ctrl+X
Then most the play-head where you want the clip to be at, then
Ctrl+V

I tried that, but even if I move the playhead further away, it pastes right back to the original location and I can't get it to move.

You cannot move it like that.
You have to have something at the other end, to place it behind.

There's no way to nudge it so it's a few seconds after a previous clip?

Add an Annotation between the 2 clips.
Have something there, an image would work.

Camtasia 7 won't let you have "Open Space" between media.

You need to do one of three things. Add media between the two clips like wayne said.

Extend a frame of your video.

Or increase the duration of a title, callout, etc.
