Please implement Spotlight and Magnify features in the Mac version of SnagIt.
They are really useful on Windows.

Other threads seem to have been concluded, but other people kept adding comments requesting these features. I want this to show up as a main topic and gain focus.

Yes, please add this ASAP! This is a really important feature. Can't believe you left it out of the Mac version??? This needs to be a priority. I'm really upset that I paid for an upgrade and for the mac version that barely doesn't anything more than my key commands. What were you guys thinking?

One more vote for the Spotlight / Magnify filters in the Mac version! These are really useful and would add a ton of value in the next release!

Agreed, +1 on this, such a major feature which has been requested for 3 years now and still not added to the Mac.

Ok, Spotlight/Magnify and alt-keys in Excel are the top two things I miss from my days on a PC. This is a crucial and vital piece. The ability to blur and dim everything except a single element is the single best part of Snag-It. Why is is missing from the Mac version?

Yes - please add. This is the single feature I want to use SnagIt for. I really miss having this on PC.

Spotlight, Magnify, Blur/Dim everything except single element for Mac.  Can we get an update on this?

A big, big vote for this feature.  For me, SnagIt is almost useless without Spotlight!  I use SnagIt to capture images and Spotlight small areas of interest in email.  Honestly, if I had know that Spotlight did not exist in SnagIt for Mac, I would not have bought it.  The built in Mac capture and Preview are good enough for my use except for Spotlight!

Thanks, everyone for the continued feedback on this feature request. I will be chatting with the product team to try and get an update on where this lies on their roadmap. Until then, please keep the feedback coming; we really appreciate it!

This is a very useful feature, especially during UAT, when trying to point out a problem or a field on a particular page or screen of an app.

Magnify feature in Mac Snagit.

I'd love to see the magnifying glass tool come to the Mac Snagit product. Maybe just including a lens attribute to shapes (along with existing transparency, etc.) that has a slider of the magnification. This is hugely useful for building callouts and often saves the task of exporting the image to Photoshop to do this sort of thing.

Feature Requests: Spotlight and Scrolling Window Capture in Mac Version.

Two things I used all the time in SnagIt for Windows were the Spotlight feature, and the Scrolling window capture. I would LOVE to see these in SnagIt for Mac!

I wish the Mac version of Snagit had effect filters (e.g. Spotlight and Magnify) like Windows does..

I miss the color editing features in SnagIt PC. Just switched to Mac and seems like a lot of the filters and editing features I loved in the PC version aren't available in the Mac version.
True?

Thank you for your suggestion. We currently don't have a timeline charting the development of Windows-like features for the Mac version of Snagit. Snagit on Mac was launched much later than Snagit on Windows and we're trying to catch up as quickly as we can while still giving you new features that we hope add a lot of value. Currently we still don't have spotlight feature in Snagit on Mac, but antigoneklima, we do have scrollling capture in Snagit on Mac version 2 - http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-mac-scrolling-window.html

Hi Sarah,

I am happy that customers like us can make picking valuable features less of an art and more of a science.  It seems logical that a project manager would like to allocate development time to things that have a guarantee of satisfaction or return compared to other things.   It does bother me that 2 years have gone under the bridge since we communicated how desirable the feature is.  Perhaps there is a new project manager as well.  Whatever the case, please try to get a commitment from the PM and respond to the thread.

Thanks for picking up and responding in the first place.

Have a great day,

Brandon Jackson

Hello Sarah.

Two things concern me.

First, this feature is not just  "nice to have". It is a deal breaker because it is unique and one of the main reasons for getting SnagIt.

Honestly, had I known this, I would have opted for a Windows laptop at my job instead of a Mac. I love Mac much more but would have given it up to get that one little feature!

Second, looking back on the thread, these complaints go pretty far back.

This gives the impression that they are never going to implement it, and are just let people gripe.

I sincerely hope that someone at TechSmith bites the bullet on this and just implements the darn thing!

Susan and Brent,

I'm part of the Snagit product management team and we are currently considering how this fits into our timeline. We are continuing to prioritize features to be added into Snagit Mac and your continued feedback is an important part in how we make decisions. We appreciate your suggestions and will let you know as soon as this feature is close to being launched!

The way it fits into your timeline is ASAP for three reasons:
  1. users are screaming for it
  2. competitors don't have it and,
  3. if you don't listen to your users, you will lose them

Hi Sofia,

Thank you for your feedback. I have passed this along to the product team to get it in front of them again. I don't have an update at this time, but we will be sure to post as soon as we have one. I'm really sorry to have kept everyone waiting so long. Please continue to provide your thoughts and feedback as it does make a difference.

FYI:  I was also just told (July 29, 2015) that the spotlight and magnify feature is still not available for Macs.  I am feverishly trying to find an additional screen capture tool that can support these features for my documentation images.

I stopped using Snagit because it's missing this feature.  I do check this thread every year to see if the feature has been implemented.  Shocked but yet not surprised that nothing has changed.  My request for the feature was 4 years ago!

this is  fundamentally a core feature and these responses are now years out of date. its the only reason I would buy. Without this feature, its the same product as everyone elses.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Snagit Capture Magnifying Loop.

I thought Snagit Mac had this... Need a magnifying loop while capturing to see the exact edge of what is being captured. Am having to recapture if I go too small or trim if to big. Would be best to capture what I need first time.

The Spotlight feature was the one reason I downloaded the SnagIt trial for Mac to support an at-home project I'm currently working on. I use it all the time at work, on my Windows machine, and just assumed it would be present in the Mac version.

Without this feature, I have no reason to spend the money to put it on my Mac. The built-in Mac screenshot tool works just fine for a basic screenshot segment option.

Please. I just updated to 4, and it's still missing?!.

I continue to swear by (and pay for!) Snagit at every job I'm on... but lack of Spotlight is killing me.

Oh, and the current 'Magnify' tool is absolutely NOT a substitute. For screen designs, every region of interest is a rectangle, not a circle.

The SnagIt Features page currently lists Magnify as a feature of SnagIt.  It says nothing about this being a Windows-only feature. I purchased an upgrade specifically because of this page

https://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html?_ga=1.102505673.933920201.1472514740#snagit-features

Looks to me like false-advertising to me.  Really uncool TechSmith.

Have you explored the help file to see if you are possibly overlooking it? I'm looking at the listed features for Mac and they do List Maginify as a new feature for version 4.

https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-mac-...

If it were a Windows only feature I would think it wouldn't be listed in this page.

Cheers... Rick :)
